You could just wait 4 years until the game and all its DLC appears in a holiday deal on Steam. That's what I seem to do for a lot of games.

Not this time though! Skyrim is looking a lot like a game I'll be getting soon after/on release day. I can't wait to talk to giants!

Well, I'll do the same thing I did with DA:O. Play through the game, enjoy it... then when an "ultimate edition" comes out, I will pass my copy onto a friend who hasn't played it (for a 1/5 of my purchase price) and buy the Ultimate edition.

Also, it's likely i'll be getting it on PC, hardware dependant of course... so Mods will be my source for extra TESing. I'll pick up the DLC if cash flows for me at that stage (highly doubt it).

So... no, I'm not a DLC whore. In fact, going by the DO:A analogy, I only got the "Ultimate Edition" because someone got me DA:2 as a gift. I was content with my first playthrough after all and wanted to continue in Awakening and do Witch hunt as it related strongly to my characters choices.

On the very off chance I do decide to get it it won't be on launch day, that much I know. I just think they make very bad games, though I didn't used to think that. I remember a day when they could do no wrong.

Maybe Skrim will come out and will be a glorious return to form, but I don't expect it will.

I just don't buy DLC... Well, ok, I've bought 2 (Broken Steel - Fallout 3 and something for Assassin's Creed 2). Especially with a game like Skyrim... I mean chances are that if I decide to buy it I'll never finish it anyway. I'm still not quite done Fallout New Vegas lol.

Speaking as a guy who didn't give too much of a damn about Oblivion, found Fallout 3 decent, and hates New Vegas . . . I really, really want Skyrim. I don't know how or why, perhaps it's because I'm a whore for a customization and it might not suck. Or maybe, I simply love duel wielding.

Yeah, that's probably it. I fucking love duel wielding!

I have never bought a piece of DLC nor shall I ever so it makes little difference to me. Had Magicka Vietnam gifted to me, but that's about the closest I've ever gotten.

Skyrim is a day 1 purchase for me, no matter what. I mean come on... it's Skyrim!
Hope you're getting it on the 360, PC is getting a half-baked port.

At least you have a good reason to wait. I thought this was going to be a thread about how you hate how buggy Bethesda games are...

If it's a game I think I will love, or a series I already love, I'll preorder the biggest Collector's Edition I can find, and buy all the DLC as soon as it gets released.
Any other game, though, I'll just wait until it's available as a cheap bundle.

It depends on the game for me really. For example I rented and did a rush playthru of New Vegas. I basically completed nothing other than the prime story arc. The reason I did this was because I have every intention on waiting for a GOTY that has it inclusive, or at the very least wait till the main game is cheap enough to offset the cost of the DLC.

I do resent DLC because it creates a dangerous precedent of value. 5$ for 45 minutes of content is always a bad investment. You can pay for half a month of a premium cable channel for 5$, you can rent several dvds for 5$, you can buy a book for less than 5$. You can get entire games for 5$ or less. There are tons of entertainment options for your money and the publishers/developers need to be reminded of that.

The value of being able to play the game as soon as possible and be in the loop regarding it online should outweigh any and all monetary concerns.

Nah. I only buy DLC for a few games (BioWare games and New Vegas are it, I think). I'm back and forth about Skyrim more because Bethesda is very hit and miss (within the same games) for me. Fallout 3 was big whiff entirely. I hated that one. Oblivion was pretty good, but the story sucked and the combat was pretty shitty too. Really, Bethesda is good at crafting big worlds, but they suck at giving that world any life and they suck at stories. I'll buy Skyrim, but I know I'll probably be bored with it a good bit of the time.
