I've only read one book of Banks' (Wasp Factory), but I enjoyed it and I know he's a favourite author of a friend of mine.

So, this makes me sad.

Rip Mr Banks, Nice guy, one of the best advocates for Humanism we've ever had and his Science Fiction novels were the awesome.

Sad day indeed

He's dead!!? That's so sad :( I read the doctors had given him a year to live.
The first novel of his I read was use of weapons and to this day it's still my favourite book of all time.
No more culture novels, gutted :(

What! But... how? I can't live without my culture novels!
I remember being so excited for Hydrogen Sonata that I downloaded it to my kindle the morning it came out and read it in a day, and now there's never going to be another one? We'll never get another Surface Detail!
I mean, his novels were pretty hit and miss *cough* Matter *cough* but when they worked they were pure brilliance. I think I need to go and lie down.

It hurts in my heartplace! :< I loved everything of his that I read apart from 'Matter' which was a complete waste of time. The Wasp Factory changed my attitude towards reading when I was in my early teens and inspired my love of literature.
