It's got all the best bits from the first couple of Lone Wolf and Cub films. I watched a few of the Japanese ones and to be frank they made less sense to me than the cut and paste job.

Metal Gear Rising.

you can reduce a full grown man to confetti, or go for precisely aim cuts and go for decapitation and dismemberment, ether way, it'll do you up right nice.

I can confirm that with the PC version with all settings on high, you can dismember someone into 300 pieces. Yes, you get a counter telling you how many pieces they are in. Cyborgs, robots, giant robots, pillars, semi trucks, bridges, all can be cut into tiny tiny pieces.

Add Shadow Warrior to the list of games as well. There's more than enough evidence where people don't use the guns and instead focus on slicing up as many enemies as they can with the sword.

Dunno about movies, but there's an anime you NEED to check out if you're into people getting sliced to bits. Afro Samurai, my man:


This anime has literally everything you could want from an anime about dudes cutting up other dudes. It's got action, it's got comedy, it's got hot women, it's got robots, it's got Samuel Motherfucking Jackson in it, and it's got gallons of blood. Plus, it's only 5 episodes long, so if you marathon all 5, it's basically the same length as a movie.

Ironclad. It's a siege movie from 2011 that has multiple battle scenes, not only is there slicing of limbs. A claymore is used to slice some guys clean in half. It's a fantastic film.

This dude knows the score. If you want stabby slashy mayhem on a grand scale, Ironclad has got you covered. Need convincing? This video is all you need:

There is also a Afro samurai movie. It's called Afro samurai: Ressurection ( if i remember correctly). Which takes place after the events of the 5 episodes. It's pretty good.
