Yeah i used to think it was I.D. for the longest time until a buddy of mine corrected me.

Also, they were responsible for making the Commander Keen games, which are totally awesome.
Yeah great memories.

gotta replay those imidiately
Og god YES! Commander keen all the way!

OT: Actually I pronounce it like I.D, but with a swedish accent and when i say it in english i say id, so as not to get confused over the way single letters are pronounced in the two languages.

interesting trivia fact, Commander Keen was originally a mario game on the PC (actually the first real platformer with Mario like movement - older platformers were.. clunky in comparison).. They went to Nintendo and said "Hey dawg, I heard you like Mario, So we put mario in your mario, and then put it on the PC"

and nintendo said "Uhhh, nothxbye"

and id said "Well shit man, we better use this engine to make our own game and get some of that fine platformin' booty"

Video game history is fun.

I use both. I'll say id in person and ID over the phone. With noise id can be a bit confusing, and I'll have to spell it out anyway, so I skip straight to spelling.

It depends on who im talking to. If im speaking with the less knowladgable about videogames i'll call it "Id" simply because its easyer.

If im up at say gamestop or a similar store, i'll call it "I.D. Software".

We all [should] know who id Software is: if not they made Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake.

They are named after "Freud's primal, instinct-driven face of the human psyche" (to quote their website). Their name should be pronounced 'ehd' (like the last two letters in "did").

Even knowing this, I still call them I.D. software, I can't help it. I've heard them called "I.D." far more than the correct "id", even by people who, like myself, should know better.

That being said. I'm curious how people around here say it.

Edit: Grrr.... forgot hit enter by force of habbit, didn't make poll... Oh well, post answer anyways.
For the first few years of my gaming life, before the internet and certainly before the prevalence of video on the internet (56k can only go so far) I thought it was I.D. and I said it as such, however, some point in the early 2000's I will have seen some video review or interview on gamespot that educated me, since then its been id software.

You get it wrong on purpose when you go to a store? Do they give you a discount if they think you're a newbie or something?

When I was younger and Doom was still pretty new, I said I.D. Software. Now I say id Software.

I pronounce it id (as in did) but I'm constantly getting flak for mispronouncing Zealot.

The root word is Zeal (Ze-eel) so it would make sense that Zealot would be "Zee-lot".

But no, it's "Zel-lot".

I blame Starcraft for introducing the word to me and not actually saying it.
