Holy shit, you just gave me a great idea, and I know a couple of brothers who would gladly dress up in slave clothes for that amount of hilarity.Signa said:It's not like he tied and restrained a black man in his yard and then set up the snowman to look like it's lynching him.
that was my first thought as well.Liberaliter said:I got to admit, that's a well made snowman... if you can get past the racist sentiments.
A serious question to you then.Jonluw said:I don't know how the law actually goes on this topic, but my personal opinion is that someone should be allowed to paint a big swastika on their house if they feel like it.Woodsey said:Yeah, but inciting racial hatred and all that.Jonluw said:That's disgusting and all, but I don't think the man should have been arrested for it (if he wasn't, I misunderstood the article). Free speech and all that.
Edit: Oh, he wasn't charged. My bad.
Still, I give the snowman itself a 7/10.
Atheists gets that all the time from religious nutjobs.Kagim said:If someone wrote in large letters "Niggers burn in hell you fucking monkey faggots" on there front lawn, say with a billboard, would you be okay with that? Especially in a residential neighborhood?
Yeah, my first response was to laugh.Ignatz_Zwakh said:I seriously lol'd. Not that I approve of what the dude did...but I just had a funny image for a snowman exhibit based around racial hatred.
Please quote where i said that was any better. Thank you.Denamic said:We should have more people do this.
It's bound to make other racists realize just how retarded racism is.

How is that any different?
I would hate the person for it and ask him to remove it, sure; but if he didn't remove it, I would accept it. Noone's throwing those Westboro baptist church people in jail, after allKagim said:A serious question to you then.Jonluw said:I don't know how the law actually goes on this topic, but my personal opinion is that someone should be allowed to paint a big swastika on their house if they feel like it.Woodsey said:Yeah, but inciting racial hatred and all that.Jonluw said:That's disgusting and all, but I don't think the man should have been arrested for it (if he wasn't, I misunderstood the article). Imagine you have kids, or, hell imagine you were black?
One might say that's a bit extreme but a Nazi-Swastika or a KKK snowman isn't that much different in the eyes of those who understand it's meaning.
He wasn't charged either. He was never thrown into jail either. He likely wouldn't have been put into jail either and neighbors would have just defaced it inevitably anyway. He honestly wouldn't have been facing any of the charges people listed since what he was doing was just racist. The cops likely came to investigate the complaint, not to arrest him.Jonluw said:I would hate the person for it and ask him to remove it, sure; but if he didn't remove it, I would accept it. Indeed he wasn't. I did edit my original post after reading the story more closely.Kagim said:He wasn't charged either. He was never thrown into jail either. I have to admit, I almost laughed aloud from picturing that as I typed it. I find racism pretty damn funny until you are actually serious about it like this guy was.UltraParanoia said:Holy shit, you just gave me a great idea, and I know a couple of brothers who would gladly dress up in slave clothes for that amount of hilarity.Signa said:It's not like he tied and restrained a black man in his yard and then set up the snowman to look like it's lynching him.
I guess we just disagree on a fundamental level then. I really need to get to bed now, in any case; so maybe it's for the best that the discussion came to a halt.Yosharian said:Point taken, but I guess what I'm saying is that in principle, I think there was nothing wrong with him being arrested.Jonluw said:Yeah, I don't live in any of those countries.Yosharian said:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incitement_to_ethnic_or_racial_hatredJonluw said:That's disgusting and all, but I don't think the man should have been arrested for it (if he wasn't, I misunderstood the article). Also, I stated earlier that I don't care what the law says, I was just talking about my personal opinion.
Then move next-door to us here in Washington, because there's no need to wallow in that filth. We're pretty cool with racial issues, or at least on the west side of the Cascades where I am. Too bad the cost of living is higher than it should be.Icehearted said:I live in Idaho, and I've raised the issue before about my being ethnically mixed, so I won't go into that. To anyone that thinks this is isolated, you're clearly not from around here. People like him are all over this state, and they're not exactly closeted about their feelings. It's not funny, especially since people like him have prevented people like myself from being employed, attending school, or participating in local church activities. It isn't something people talk much about, but it's here, in force, and it has been for decades. It's not trivial, and it will never go away around here.
Racism isn't funny, it ruins lives.
