Can the battle system develop to a point where it doesn't suck? Just maybe?
Huh? The system rocked lol. What was your problem with it?
The fact that it was the worst part of Persona, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks that. I actually like turn based games, but Persona has the depth of Pokemon(sans online), ie. whore out enemy weakness until they croak, but it cranks that up to an 11 when exploiting their weakness also knocks them down and lets you use an all out attack for massive damage [http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs11/i/2006/242/4/b/_Incredible_Giant_Crab_Redux_by_VegasMike.jpg].

The amount of grinding also makes the game a pain in the ass unlike the brisk and nice Pokemon, but I suppose that's what the easy mode is for.

Most good foes later on have no weaknesses though...and I'm sure you've never leveled a pokemon to lvl 100 legitimately if you think SMT has more grinding lol.

I generally only needed 1-3 days a month to be able to beat that month's boss easily, so I don't see how you had to grind more than in an average rpg.

Actually, I have, but that's not the point. Pokemon is different because grinding is unnecessary and never suggested. Persona 3 gives you a whole month to level grind for the last boss.

And the boss fights with no weaknesses are boring. I'd probably mind less if the animations were shorter or even nonexistent, because I sure don't mind grinding in Dragon Quest V.

Well, the most popular JRPG series ever, Final Fantasy(sans NES titles), required no grinding if you played your cards right. It can't require too much grinding if the last boss can be beat without leveling up/using the sphere grid/advancing the crystarium at all. The mentioned Pokemon also don't need much grinding, annoying as Whitney's Miltank may be.

The only popular series that I can remember that has large amounts of grinding is Dragon Quest, and most of the time you can get through that game without too much grinding as well. That's about it for the games I know, since I don't bother myself with lower quality trite like Compile Heart/Idea Factory.

Oh, can I also give a shout out to leader death for crappy game mechanics? It's annoying as hell having your character get killed in the middle of Tartarus by a flying book that got lucky with Mudo.

What I would like...

1.) Multiplatform: 360 needs more love too!
2.) More elements: After playing alot of SMT games lately, I do get tired of seeing Bufu, Agi, Mudo,Zio, etc spells.
3.) More Interactivity: I KNOW this won't happen, since Atlus is a small company. But it be cool seeing your Social Links walking around doing their own daily task, like it GTA 4. They could call you to hang out, or be surprised when they meet you.
4.) Bigger overworld: Seriously, if your going to make us stay in a town for close to 80 hours, the best you could do is make it bigger! Probably not GTA4 level, but lots of Shops and entertainment stores could be cool.
5.) Being able to dress your protagonist: hell, they could make it a game play element! Probably you can't go to someones party without wearing a tusk.
6.) Experimenting with Real Time Combat: Probably a bit controversial, but I'd think it would have a more mainstream appeal if the combat took place in realtime. Kind of like...no, exactly like Devil Summoner 2's combat system. How cool will it be deliver rapid blows, backstepping to dodge and attack, and delivering an Agidyne spell as a finishing blow?
7.) Make test be on stuff you actually learn in class, rather than random facts.
8.) More persona users. Takaya and Jin's battles were pure epicness!
9.) Get rid of the Kun, Chan, Sempai, etc, and to compensate put a Japanese language track. Too me it just sounds awkward.
10.) More animations for Personas
11.) Less recycled shadows ( Persona 3 being the main offender!)
12.) More animations for party members.
13.) Optional party members: Wuldn't it be cool if your part really consisted of the people you decided to form social links with? This could also change up the plot of the story.
14.)Maybe a few minigames: Like a dancing minigame, racing minigame ( For like track sports event), etc.
15.) Alternate weapons for party members.

To be honest, just more of the same. For the love of god don't westernize it more than it has been.

More varied dungeons, and I do like the idea of branching Social Links but just keep it coming back to what made the original games so great.
