If an alien race appears and they look just like us, would they be humans?

No more than we would be 'whatever-they're-called's'.

Despite looking human, Superman absolutely is not part of the human species. Same logic applies.

Put it this way: If we can breed/procreate, then they are human. If we can't, then no. They could be close, e.g. same Phylum, Class, Family ect. but unless we are the same species then they are aliens. Or animals. Or mammals. Or dolphins.

They would be humans if they could interbreed with us and produce fertile offspring - the definition of species. Otherwise, not so much.

Would have to look at their genetic make up I would think. Although even if they shared 99 percent of our DNA we still need to call them whatever it is they call themselves.

Just looking the same, no. Absolutely identical, no to themselves, yes to everyone else. Same thing as the ship that is entirely repaired, and all of its parts replaced. Is it still the same ship? No, but it looks like it to the point where it is impossible to distinguish.

no. it would be very unlikely that their internal biology would be the same as humans.
