Ok, to correct a few people here:

The Pippin was a joint venture with Bandai. They didn't have full control over the product. Furthermore Apple is a very different company to what it was back then.
Whats this about 'every few months'? It may be a joke, but cmon, thats a bit unfair. Besides isn't incremental updates something that is happening already? PS2/3 Slim, 360 Slim, Wii without Wifi to make it cheaper, goodness knows how many PSP/DS iterations...
Sure, a lot of Apple products are expensive, but look at the iPad; competitors are really struggling to meet that match point. Apple can do affordable products; they're just affordable based on their quality, similar to the PS3 which crams a lot more stuff into a slightly more expensive package.

I would make such a decision depending on what the finished product looked like. I certainly don't make a judgement based on rumours and assumptions, Apple is no exception. However, considering I'm an Apple head, and they generally make very good quality products, I'd say yeah sure, I'd probably jump in the bandwagon. Of course, they'd have to cater to the more 'mature' *cough* market before I'd be willing to get one... good games make or break a console, after all.

3.competitors struggle to match the iPad? Only on the commercial level, i have seen better tablets that were for half the price and even had extras

1. Apple does annual updates. And besides, most other companies in the computer industry bring out some new version of something every year too. Doesn't mean you have to get them.

2. They're expensive because they're well made. Furthermore, Apple also innovates and changes markets; MP3 players, tablets and phones were all dramatically changed by Apple. I'd rather pay a little bit more money to a company that tries something new, than pay less to a company that does the same-old year after year.

3. You've seen tablets half the price with extras. Have you actually tried using one of them? Pretty much all the Android tablets I've laid my hands on so far have felt clunky, slow, and complicated, despite their fancy attachments and big numbers. Besides the newest iPad is by far the most portable tablet of them all, which is incredibly important for a, well, portable device. You're not really going to be messing around with a USB stick on-the-move, in real life scenarios, so such features are kinda useless (as are cameras). And all these tablets either matched or exceeded the base model iPad in price wait a minute, I meant the opposite! A lot of them exceeded the top-range iPad models, sorry about that . Anything cheaper generally sacrificed significant features, like screen size.

4. Quality as in build quality, looks, feel, etc. Which, I always argue, is far more important than people give credit for; do people say that the looks and feel of a car don't matter? No, the looks of a car are a very important feature. So why should a computer be made of ugly black/grey plastic and be judged only on speed and practicalities? Macs are expensive because they feel nice to use, with their back-lit keyboards and aluminium finish, as well as their easy-to-use, fancy OS.

5. I hope I've made an impression as a 'mature' Apple fanboy. However, I wasn't referring to 'mature' on that level; I was referring to the type of games 'mature' gamers play, aka. 'hardcore' games (I hate that term so I avoid using it whenever possible). I wouldn't buy a Mac console if all it had was Farmville

1. does annual updates that you MUST get and renders anything before obsolete, not with oher companies

2. I'd rather buy from someone who does something old but make it good, than something new and innovative that's utter shit(not saying that apple products are shit)

3. yes i tried using them, they were better actually, and some extras turned them actually into a laptop(the extras were usually free)

4. looks are important.. for some things. I dn't care however how pretty my computer is, and i sure as hell won't pay 80% of the price for the preetines

5. And most hardcore game playing people I see are teenagers, that shout in their mic for every single thing that happens

1. Annual updates does not mean the old version being obsolete. My MacBook Pro isn't as snappy as the newest version, not does it have Thunderbolt, but it still runs the latest software. Apple still sells the last-gen iPhone as cheaper alternatives too, and they work perfectly fine. "Obsolete" is something like the Touchpad, which won't be receiving any more support at all.

2. Apple products aren't shit is the thing, but still new and innovative

3. My personal experience with Android tablets has been that of frustration. Classic example: I was using a Motorola Xoom, and I couldn't even work out how to type a the web address on the browser. Furthermore, point about tablets is that their not meant to be laptops; laptops are too heavy and big to be practical for portability. In essence, their the next-gen desktops nowadays. Having extras is pointless if they're not useful in day-to-day use. Using the camera on any tablet makes you look like a bit stupid, and stuff like USB drives are, well, actually closing in on being obsolete now with cloud storage and whatnot. Why add features you never use, even if they are free? Its pointless.

4. I sense you're over-exaggerating the price... on average a Mac might be about 30% more expensive than an equivalent product (well, for computers at least). Style and looks are only part of the equation; I also prefer the Mac for its software.

5. Which is why I said 'mature' games with the ' ' marks, to suggest sarcasm nevertheless its those kind of games that I play more. You know, the Fallouts, Call of Duties and Grand Theft Auto's of the gaming world.

1. actually with the macs it DOES mean it's obsolete, new software not compatible with 3 year old macs... shit my pc is old 7 years i think

3. why must i have such a bad memory, used one tablet, i don't think it was android based even, forgot the god damn name, it was surely not a big name developer

4. not really, my computer costed no more than 800? i think, but it can run new games and software at a pretty good rate(got a solid 60 fps out of crysis 2 with most settings high)

5. only hardcore game in there was call of duty, other games are already a bit more sophisticated and dont hold the players hand throughout the game in fear he might get lost(yes i'm calling gta a sophisticated game)

1. I'm hoping my Mac will last a similar amount of time, it will certainly run the latest software in 3 years time. Our oldest Mac in the house has only just conked it in terms of not being able to run the newest Mac OS X, (you need a Intel Core 2 Duo processor to run it, ol' Mac has an Intel Core Duo) but it certainly still works.

2. Apple is one of the most innovative companies around. They were the first company to use the mouse which changed computing forever, for one. Then the iPod, which had a 95% market share for a hell of a long time, then the iPhone, which completely changed smartphones (early pre-iPhone Android phones looked like BlackBerry's), and, well, the iPad...:

3. The only non-Android based tablet worth mentioning was the TouchPad by HP if I remember correctly. That went kaput in 6 months.

4. That still isn't "80% of the expense", my MacBook can run the latest software and all that as well. I don't really play games on it much, except strategy games (and the only strategy game I really need is Rome: Total War )

5. Well, 'sophisticated games' then. I actually rather like that term!

1. I read a an article on the escapist i think, that 3 year old macs not that they can't run the new itunes, cuz they would need the new mac os(new itunes not compatible with the old mac os), thus, everyone that has an iPhone, iPad,... needs a completely new mac

2. ooooooookay if u persist, then i'm going to mash on the customer support: 70% of mac users i know are assured:"Mac is the ultimate computer it will never get viruses... har har har steve jobs is a god" one week later I think only 1 didn't have a virus, they took it to customer support, but the employes had to not deny that they have a virus nor say that they have, but just to send them home and say:"please keep buying our products"

3. like I said, forgot the name of a couple tablets i tried

4. that brings me to compatibility, macs are usually compatible only with apples software, and also are not customizable
