What would be your reaction and would you like it? Daft Punk are famous in the film category for their brilliant pieces in Tron:Legacy. Now think what they'd do with Mass Effect. Personally, I'd squeal and jump up and down.

Pure speculation so what are your thoughts on this?
Disclaimer:It's not even a rumour so don't get your hopes up.

So for some other kind of discussion value, if your favourite videogame was greenlit for a film, who would you want to be the composer/musician responsible for making it?

I'd not be overjoyed. In Tron their music fits, since it's inside a computer program it's fitting with that kind of "techno" or whatever category Daft Punk goes into.
ME is more of a calm space music...well ofc in Mass Effect you're in a all out war, so might not be fitting with very calm music, but not with techno/electronic either, imo.

Don't see how their music would fit Mass Effect. Tron is a movie about... inside a computer, right? Afaik Daft Punk uses only electronic sound effects for their songs, which makes it fitting there.

I listened to the Tron Legacy soundtrack for the first time last month (still haven't seen the movie), and about halfway through I thought, "This music could have been from Mass Effect" - by which I meant the game.

So, yeah, I could easily see it. I'd prefer they get Jack Wall, Sam Hulick et. al., but Daft Punk would be a good fit.

it's Daft Punk.
That would sell me anything but since they're both famous and notorious for not repeating what they do, it might be a lost hope. I don't know, guess I got a little too excited. Anything DP related gets me excited, especially since it's been nearly 7 years since their last studio album.

I'd be impressed but it wouldn't be enough to make me want to see a movie that I know is going to suck.
Maybe there's a chance it might be good but I'm too emotionally invested in Mass Effect's plot and characters to be able to bear the idea of them getting ruined. So I would never take that chance.

But yes all the same, Daft Punk would be a good choice to do the kind of futuristic musical score of Mass Effect.

I would consider playing the games. (I still have Mass Effect 1 & 2 sitting in my Steam library, practically unplayed except for a bit of Mass Effect 1).

But realistically I would just buy the soundtrack. Because it's Daft Punk.

Daft Punk? Fuck yes!
For Mass Effect? Ehhhh... it doesn't really work.
Trent Resnor would fit as well as DP for ME.

These are some of the best examples I could find. I honestly think they would do a great job, they do have a reputation for making electronic music but they're actually good at pretty much any kind of music and the Tron soundtrack is proof of that.

I would go UUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! WHY DID THE DO THIS?! Turn off the music, and keep playing until I realized that the game is boring.

As much as I like Daft Punk, I don't think they'd be suited for Mass Effect, at least with their traditional music. They're talented musicians, and could probably pull off a badass score, though. I think Jack Wall or John Williams would be better suited for doing a Mass Effect score.

As for your other discussion point, my favorite game getting the green light for a movie? A Chrono Trigger movie could only have one of two people scoring it, and they would be the two people who scored the game. I expect nothing less.

Haven't liked Daft Punk since "Homework," but am now intrigued to hear the Tron soundtrack. But no, outside of the club scenes, I wouldn't peg DP for a good Mass Effect fit.

To the latter end of the OP, is like to see Philip Glass contribute to Mass Effect; his orchestral music tends to have that epic-ness about it along with a sense of brooding austerity.

I love Daft Punk (they're one of my favourite artists) but I'm not too sure they would be suitable for a Mass Effect film (ME isn't exactly electronic).

OT- None since in my opinion video games have never been good when it is adapted into a live action film. Beside I'm not that familiar with music composers so I wouldn't know would be suitable of my game choice.

They could do A song for the game. Maybe for a fight inside of a futuristic space club or something. But for the whole game? Please, Daft Punk doesn't know how to write music under 140BPM. Even their "dramatic" stuff for Tron Legacy was still Uhn-tish off the wazoo.

If Mass Effect were a platformer and Shepard were played by Kevin Sorbo then yeah Daft Punk would totally work!

While Daft Punk are really really good, I don't think their music matches the Mass Effect universe. It might work, but at the same time might be totally out of place.
