Hello, from what I have seen a lot of people around here like mass effect, so I thought I would ask this question for any of you bioware fans.

Do you think i will like Dragon age: Origins, even though i did not enjoy Mass effect?
How close do you think the gameplay will be between the two?

If you need to know, and I can imagine you do for your opinion, the reasons I didn't like mass effect were:

-The storyline felt really slow to me and hard to get into.
-The combat was iffy.
-I am not really a fan of space, future games.

But, i do love games like oblivion, and mideval games in general and i have to say the character creator looks really sweet, it beats most of the ones i have seen if not all of them.

So i leave you with that, what is your opinion, do you think theres a chance of me liking Dragon age: Origins?

Oh and yay for first thread.
Dragon Age gameplay is more akin to Neverwinter Nights, from what I've seen, although they've replaced the D&D ruleset with what seems like a simpler, easier to use set of rules.

Here is a video from the Giant Bomb crew which features ingame view of the gameplay: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-dragon-age-origins-360/17-1528/
That's not really a good presentation if he's going to get the PC version but it is if he's getting a console version.

A bit dissapointed by this but that wont break it, but what your saying is it wont be giant open world go exploring oblivion or fallout 3, but it wont be halo 3 linear?
Of the two, Dragon Age will be MUCH closer to Oblivion, with Fallout 3's sort of storytelling & NPCs.

True - I just picked the first video I found on Giant Bomb, heh. But I'll be getting PC myself, as even Susan said the PC is the home of this game.

Did you like diablo, or Baldurs gate, neverwinter nights or Icewind dale?
If yes: then you will enjoy Dragon Age.

If you havent played any of the above games, then GO BUY BALDURS GATE 1 AND 2!

Dragon age is going to me more hand-holding than oblivion I'd expect, but I presume it wont be as linear as Mass Effect, different sections of the studios etc.
Yes i like diablo, the others i have not played, and thats another question i would like to know, is this a linear game? or a giant sandbox like oblivion? this will also be another deciding factor.
Back on the issue of being linear, because I don;t think it was clearly expressed.

Bioware games (Mass Effect included) usually follow the format of extended sections of linear- story central gameplay; then the game opens up into a large area where you can roam about (like a city in KOTOR - or the whole map as in Baldurs gate).

At these open points you can choose to do side-quests and other things in general; before going back to the story-central linear bits- and then it opens up again; repeat.

Mass Effect did not do this well; it had one; arguably two point where it opened it- the first time you get to explore the citadel and the galaxy map.

Also Bioware games almost ALWAYS (I cant think of an exception) have morality and impact on choices- so in this way they are sandboxish- It frames the story, but lets you choose how you want do it all.

So it's opens up during periods of the game to a (oblivion-esque) sandbox, and then durng story intensive parts propels you into a linear plot (to a certain degree)

I hope this helps

This is somthing i have wanted to ask also, Do you think i should get it for the PC or the xbox 360? I may be wrong but what i have seen it is a point and click? Kind of reminds of when i played world of warcraft, and if that is the case it sounds like it will be a lot better on the PC, hmm?

Too lazy for snips sorry.

Get the PC version if your system can handle it (try the already released character creator) as it will have mods and more online support.
But Mass Effect was certainly the better game on a big screen in a living room, so whatever system you prefer.

I would hazard against a rental, as Bioshock games dont rent well, I'm guessing you would barely get past the linear introductory/tutorial area, during a rental, unless you went gun-ho at it.

Well I loved Kotor and Mass Effect, but didn't really like Jade Empire at all, so it's anyone's game here.

This game is also not going to be a hack and slash game like Oblivion. What you are going to do is control a party of characters and issue them commands like attack this monster cast fireball etc. Which is why you are going to want the PC version if you're computer can handle it. If you want an idea of what that's going to be like download the demo for Neverwinter Nights.

Here's the thing (coming from someone who's loved every BioWare title, especially ME): ME was an action/RPG hybrid with shooter-style combat. Since the team had never done a shooter before, the combat was a bit rough on fans of that genre (though I liked it just fine, especially playing with biotics). But the story is typical BioWare. I'm sorry you found it slow, but I thought it was properly developed, with plot twists scattered around. There was time for character development, which is always good. And DA:O looks to be big on story and characters, too. With such a long game, the plot will probably develop gradually.

Have you played any other BioWare games? DA:O looks to be a return to NWN and Baldur's Gate style RPGs (the latter in particular). If you liked those games, you'll probably like DA:O. But they're usually nothing like Oblivion. As in, their leveling system works, their characters are engaging, their stories interesting and well-crafting, and their voice acting superior.

Dragon Age: Origins is more like a follow up to Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate than Mass Effect. I don't expect that it will have any relation to Mass Effect stylistically or in the skill system, so that wouldn't be the primary comparison I would make. If you liked Neverwinter Nights, I would certainly give DA:O a look.
This really. Dragon age is done in the style of the RPGs from Bioware past. It's not an action RPG, it's more of the "tactical" style.
