As for F-Zero, Nintendo themselves have said they have no idea what to do with the series. Sure, they could give it to Retro, but really, how much can you do with a futuristic racing game? It's still going to revolve around racing.
And that's all it really needs to be, just give new tracks, maybe some new vehicles, and that's it. You don't have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to racing games at all, so I don't get why Nintendo thinks they need to. Hell, just contract SEGA again or contract Sumo Digital to make the game, with Nintendo publishing it. SEGA, even in their console days made some really good racing games, and after they went third-party Nintendo contracted them to make F-Zero GX on the GameCube as well as published F-Zero AX in arcades and the game was amazing in how it looked and how it played. Heck, if Sega doesn't want to do it, then let Sumo Digital give it a try, as they made Allstars Racing Transformed and my friends and I had a blast with it. Just sitting on it and saying "we don't know what to do" for a racing game is silly.
Relying on just Mario and Zelda for things is just as bad as how Sega relies on Sonic to sell their things. Not everyone likes Mario or Zelda games, and the fact that Bayonetta 2 is exclusive to the Wii U shows that Nintendo doesn't mind niche games, as the first Bayonetta is also a niche game.
