So I was looking at the way the new Rock Band will be setup... and for a moment, I was rather thrilled. But it left me curious, and the more I think about it, the less thrilled I find myself.

Basically, if anyone can contact Harmonix, convince the guys to make a "Learn to Play Guitar" game to sell. They'd make a killing. I know for one, I'd buy it to learn to play finally. The way I was reading it, it seems like fret feedback would be an excellent way to teach people where to put their fingers. Could even teach deaf people to play.

Isn't there a different music game that's aiming to do that?
I vaguely remember seeing a video about a guitar-hero style game, with a real guitar as the controller, and it helped you to learn to play the real thing.

Back in MY day, deaf people learned to play music just like everyone else! [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_van_Beethoven]

Nah, but that's an okay idea I suppose. It would probably be much too expensive for general audiences, though.

More so than Rock Band 3 itself? Really?

Not as if I've heard much about Rock Band 3, but I'm assuming the guitar bits probably only come with some super-expensive special edition. And people who already own the regular guitars and such can probably just buy the discs.

if only amy fucking whinehouse wasnt on it, oh and i wish i could find my RB2 disc.
Can only blame people, not Harmonix, for this one. People send in via Request, and if a song or artist gets enough requests, they do it. They even admit that they're proud of their fan pandering. I'd LOVE them if they made a "Indy" game, but then it wouldn't very well sell outside of "Must Have Complete Set" people and people that know the Indy groups.

As a pianist I already know that rockband cant teach you how to play piano... It's physically impossible on the limited keytar.

With guitar it is easier to learn the general where do I put my fingers and this can be done via a game or even YouTube videos but there are things like technique which will always always show themselves in people who haven't learned properly and will always hinder their ability to play.

Currently I'm not even sure RB 3 on pro mode even gives you the full chords you need to play as I watched a video on IGN and it didn't seem to match up fully with the song.

I'd be interested to compare the game to an actual tab for whatever the song was.

Here is my advice, if you want to learn guitar buy an acoustic and learn guitar... if you're not willing to do that then you obviously don't want it enough. Also, always start with acoustic, if you jump straight to electric you wont learn properly electric is for a number of reasons much easier and much more forgiving.
