all I ever hear in multi-player or co-op single-player are people that sound under the age of 15? I play a wide variety of games, from shooters to RTS, RPG's, etc. But I have yet to hear or talk to someone that sounds as old as myself (26). Where are all these thirty-somethings that supposedly make up the largest demographic of the gaming market?

Either playing single player, or on private servers I would assume.
Or simply not using voice comms.

Good point, but I think all the older gamers are probably just being quieter. Most of the people who never use a headset I bet.

I just turned 32 yesterday, and I agree with what the above posters said. Especially since I only use my mic in party chat with friends. I do not tolerate whiny children.

Avoiding getting on the mic so they don't have to deal with squeeky voiced 15 y/o's? I'm 27 and I barely touch mic's in games this gen, cuz hearing those annoying twits over the mic makes you wanna stop playing just for GP. Although when I played dc uni online I don't remember coming across any of the annoying squeeky voiced twits in the game, but shooters are so plagued with'em it's better to just put on music, and shoot everything you see. God I hope BF3 isn't plagued with it, this is the only shooter in recent years I'm actually looking forward for the team based battling.

THe only time I ever use the mic is if I'm playing with friends or playing Left for Dead 2, which I maintain really only works if you can talk to your team, otherwise things always seem to go horribly.

Otherwise I pretty much mute everyone as soon as the game starts in CoD

What exactly classifies as "gaming", and where exactly do thirty-somethings have their majority share?

Don't you think that those same thirty-somethings at times have learned to keep quiet when they have nothing to say?

You're basing this thing on perception. Do you realise that the really annoying minority easily can pose itself as the majority?

Just a few questions.

When they did the research that led to the 30-something number, they probably cast a very wide net in their definition of "gamer" to those who play things like solitaire on their computer. Most of the regularly-gaming group in that age range likely mostly play things like Farmville or Bejeweled. Sure, there are a decent number of 30-something gamers who play console games or more "hardcore" PC titles, but I doubt that group outweighs the younger demographic, especially teens and college-age folks.

I'm 22 and I always use microphone with my friends only. I never use ingame chats or whatever.
