I've learned that this is probably the greatest thread ever. Seriously I haven't laughed this hard in a while. It's nice to see that we understand our faults, yet still love this site.

Also, advertising captchas suck. Please change them back.

I learned that you can have any opinion or belief you want, so long as it is the same as everyone else. If you're different, god help you.

It's that an overweight British man wearing a cheap suit and giving rants at a podium that looks like a cheap knock-off of V For Vendetta might actually have a few points. Logical ones even. As a bonus, is funny as hell to watch.

Good to know that someone else is "Worse" about making effective use of their freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech doesn't guarantee quality, which in a way is one of it's good sides.

That mass effect fans are really easy to piss off. Seriously, mention mass effect 3 and streamlining in the same fucking paragraph, and they're all like "OMG THEY'RE TURNING IT INTO A GENERIC DUMB HALO and/or GEARS OF WAR SHOOTER AND THEY'RE REMOVING EVERYTHING THAT EVER MADE IT COMPLEX GAAAAAAAAH!". Seriously people, there are what, two trailers out and because of a few mentions of streamlining you're ready to dismiss it as a gears of war clone? They're just shooting sections. It's not a big deal.
It's because we're terrified of any possibility that it won't be good. Not saying those guys are right, just that they have their reasons. The more you love a work of fiction, the more you fear for its future. Personally, I'm a little more optimistic, but I still can't help but worry when BioWare talks about how "accessible" the game is going to be.

As for me? I've learned that geeky kids from first-world countries (like myself) will never run out of things to ***** about.

"Religion is ruining the world!"

"I've lost my faith in humanity; everyone but me is stupid!"

"There's no point in living!"

"Everyone discriminates against me!"

Because of this, I've also learned a valuable lesson: the less genuine tragedy you have in your life, the easier it is to blow the little things out of proportion, and to take yourself way too seriously.

...it's that arrogant white teenage atheists aren't just common; on the internet, they're the norm. And that more often than not, the only thing separating me from them is that I keep my contempt to myself.
I have unfortunately learned this as well.

No matter how much a forum/thread says they are fair, civil, and reasonable if they are on the internet...they are not.

it's that a lot of the people on here are idiots disguised as geniuses, who think that they're right because they can type entire paragraphs of shit that equals nothing because it's a bunch of huge "look at me I'm smart" words that tend to have little relevance to the conversation at hand, and then go on a mod rage (reporting you, then telling their friends to report you) because you point out everything that they said is wrong, and then say that what they said is full of shit.

What Blakfayt said...
I couldn't possibly agree with this more! you are so exactly right that I am sure some "genius" will try to disagree with you.

That gaming has gotten much bigger than the little niche market I used to love... but I'm still in the same market, and it's still a niche.

That people can bash Americans as being intolerant of other people's cultures while bashing Americans for their culture.
sadly this is far too true all over the internet, most of the time from people marginalizing all Americans based on the few extremists they may have encountered,or worse, only saw/heard about...on the internet.

such a sad fact.

Things I learned on the Escapist even though I tried to ignore it:

Sexism is real. Even with people you think are intelligent.

Gamers really aren't that different from regular people, for good or ill.

Your opinion is worth absolutely nothing.

Guys are a species unto themselves.

Most people aren't hardcore gamers.

Farmville is a disease that needs to be purged.

For some reason, everyone hates shooters and people who play them are immature fuckwads.

Supreme difficulty equals awesome and good.

The console is a horrible gaming system.

The PC is a horrible gaming system.

Friend Zone is an actual thing. (I swore my..uh..friend made this up)

Fans are wonderfully horrible people.

Someone will despise something you live by.

Every country has their moment of stupidity. It just depends on what gets reported.

I'm not as accepting as I wish I was. It's something you have to forever work on.

Aliens really aren't as interesting as everyone tries to make them.

Well it taught me that:
I'm a moron
People have opinions
Children are evil
COD is trash
COD is only for children
Portal references are overused
Everything is overused
Religion is for idiots
Every game is art
Politics are complicated
America sucks ass
There is no reason to have faith in humanity
Everyone here is a "genius"
Cynicism is a second language
Common phrases are retarded
TV tropes is trap
90% of everything is crap
Older people like MLP:FiM
Videogame characters will constantly want to have sex/kill/dance/or live with you
Your avatars are the same as videogame characters
We're all gonna survive the zombie apocalypse
Most of us are full of shit
We're all hipsters and haters
"Everyone's an idiot, but not me of course"

And that's pretty much it. Whether or not I believe any of it doesn't matter, but here's what I've seen and "learned."

Oh and I almost forgot:
People actually think what they post on some internet forum actually means something.

Did I forget anything?
Nope, I think you just about covered it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go play my sophisticated RPGs on my PC while thinking about how great it is to be a tri-gendered asexual panromantic. It's a real shame how narrow-minded people who don't "get" me are, and how much better I am than them. All those girls who have "friend-zoned" me don't know what they're missing.

God, I'm so awesome.

Never post in the Religion and Politics forum ever. Especially if you don't have the same opinions as the people who post there.
