If the founding fathers could see their country now, what would they think? (Not just US)

*sigh* They put in the right so the common man could protect himself from said police force and military.
people always seem to forget that the gun law is our "RESTART" button. if the government or police get out of line we have a way to overthrow them. if other countries are content with their brick throwing revolts, so be it.

I doubt Ben Franklin, who said "A little revolution now and again can be a healthy thing", would be too surprised at the gross increase in power the federal government gave itself after 200 years of going unchecked.

My argument is that sure, having guns is awesome if you need to overthrow your government, the only problem is your rifle won't do you much when you're faced with a tank. So why bother?

Probably would overhaul some of the old laws like "A right to bare arms." since there's a well established police force and military and the general lack of highwaymen and what have you getting about ready to take out a city. People possessing weapons would just be arrested and prosecuted, corruption might take a nosedive as well.

*sigh* They put in the right so the common man could protect himself from said police force and military.
True but if you think that then people think your some right wing freak. If you read many of our founding fathers papers Mr jefferson particularly they advocated firearm ownership for that very reason. Scary how many people are so willing to give up rights for "security"

I'm just amused that all the Founding Fathers would say the same thing. Hamilton and Jefferson had very contrary view points. They were responsible for the first political parties, after all.
Indeed. There were very diverse viewpoints among them, which just makes their accomplishment all the more amazing. Some were for a strong central government, some for a weak central government, some pro-slavery, some anti-slavery. (They get no points from me for freeing the slaves in their wills, though. Giving up something once you've no further way to use it is hardly a meaningful gesture, and fighting for abolition whilst holding slaves is just typical politicianry, do what I say not what I do.)

Like your glock is going to stop the military? The government? Ever hear of metal storm? Google it, see what the army has and just imagine what they probably have underwraps if they -really- want to play hardball.

Are the founding fathers some kind of Godlike beings. It's strange how the Americans talk about them like they're the creators of everything.

But then Australia doesn't really have too much of a back story. Convicts gallor!
I think it's more because we tend to think of them as exceptional models of human beings, and they all have traits that we should strive to be like.

Australia needs little back story. It's like the twitch based first person shooter of countries.
We don't need any more back story than we've got. They took the most fucked up people from England and dropped them here. That's an awesome history. Also explains a lot, as anyone from Australia would know.
Well it's not that great. We raped, slaughtered and stole from the Aboriginies and it's only now that we said sorry to them.

And yeah, we do kick arse at wars.

"LOLWUT?!"

But really. I bet you the first thing they would notice is that blacks were walking around free.
That was what the country was founded upon.. All men are created equal. Except those dark skinned folks. And those red skinned folks we killed to to build our beautiful homes.
