Maybe I'm wrong but playing FF:CC (I couldn't stand "Genesis" and the whole "loveless" spin... Genesis is one of the most irritating FF antagonists ever...) I thought the goddess just a reference to Jenova, Calamity from the skies?

I never bothered with Dirge of Cerberus as it looked (and apparently is) god-awful, so maybe I missed something there. (And I'm a huge FF fan BTW!)
No the Goddess that genesis so avidly mentions over and over again is a representation of the will of the planet/lifestream and sort of the anti-thesis to JENOVA. It would hardly be a reference to JENOVA seeing how much more benevolent the goddess Genesis speaks of it as compared to JENOVA who is more some dark harbinger. I'm most certain she will reappear in whatever FF7 related game I know they are gonna chuck at us...and I hope it's Crisis Core material and not DoC or AC crap.

My guess is that they DO have another FF7 game on the way as they have a few things to clear up that were set in motion in Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus. Crisis Core briefly introduced us the "The Goddess" Minerva that Genesis kept blabbing about, and I doubt she was simply thrown in there for the hell of it, she WILL come back.

Dirge of Cerberus ends with Genesis awakening from his hibernation and flies off with Weiss I think it was and mentions that "there are some things to take care of". And the only reason Genesis would reawaken is if something bad was on the way as he became the planets volentary guardian between the end of Crisis core and DoC, so I guess something WORSE than JENOVA or OMEGA may appear.

Sufficed to say, any future sequel planned for FF7 will most definitely involve a return of Genesis and integrating him as an important part of the story. Minerva has a chance of returning, and maybe even a new threat that ISN'T Sephiroth (please god). Yea I love Sephiroth as much as the next fan, but he's run his course, time for another threat to step up to the plate.

Hmm... based on the description you've given, the Goddess Minerva would be one of the Cetra (Aerith specifically). I doubt that it's correct, but that's the way it sounds.

Looking at the provided image, I cannot say for sure. I tuned Genesis out most of the time so it's probably biting me in the ass here.
uh..if you are suggesting that it's Aerith I'd have to strongly disagree seeing as Aerith was still alive during Crisis Core after all. But I did also theorize that Minerva may have some sort of connection to the Cetra.

As for Genesis, I didn't mind his poetic babbling, I found it quite entertaining and refreshing. It beats the constant "grr I'm evil because I'm a jerk" attitude we constantly see. That and his constantly references were really no different than Sephiroth and his references to "mother"....it's just that Genesis was a little more pervasive about it. I liked him too because just like Sephiroth, he is less a villain and really just another victim pushed too far due to the true villains at hand which influence and guide their actions throughout the story. It's what I liked about FF7, the perceived bad guy is really just another poor soul who has been manipulated and broken to the point where their hatred and lust for revenge against these forces ironically turn this person into and almost as terrible a force as the ones that shaped them.

Oh god.

FF7 sucks compared to nearly all the sequels.

Why does it get all the praise?

OT: You'd play as a chocobo. And wander dungeons. And have classes. It'd be Chocobo's Dungeon.

It would have Tifa, Yuffie and and Aerith replacement dressed in hot outfits as part of a crime-fighting, problem-solving pop-trio and follow their exploits as they travel around the world searching for Cloud who's gone missing after the end of the battle with Jenova/Sephiroth. It would use the job system and have a lot of platforming elements.

I swear to god let this die unless you want this to be what you have to endure. This is your last warning.

Do you remember Final Fantasy X-2? I'm sure you do.
Now think about what you're suggesting here. You want them to make another X-2. I hope you burn.
Actually, playing as Tifa would be pretty bad ass. I mean, everyone needs weapons, even Vincent and Sephy, but Tifa just beats the shit outta people with her hands.
Actually this just got me thinking how similar the female characters are. I mean...

ya, ya, Yuna is slightly more badass but did she ever singlehandedly save an entire planet?...Shush you!

I mean, the cast is pretty similar.

OT: An honest to goodness sequel? Depending on ow 13 turns out, I would like to see it's battle system implemented, or at least something similar.

Here's how I'd do it. Start the game about 15 years down the road. Enough time to really see the changes that would happen to a world that suddenly lost it's economic stability. Suddenly people have to live much differently than they did. You'd play as an older and wiser (and less assholey) Cloud.

I've really got no idea as to the specifics of the plot, but one could see a game being set on the same planet but a planet that has gone through a lot of change.

I would love to run into past FF7ers in unexpected ways, maybe without warning you'd run into Red in the mountains and have him join your party (one or two originally part members being optional/integral party members would be neat, just not everyone)? Or maybe you'd run into a thirty year old Yuffie, who's now the cutthroat head of a thieves guild? Maybe in a twist, someone like Reno would join your party (to avenge the death of his fellow turks)? Maybe we'd meet a middle aged Barett, living it up in retirement just south of the Midgar ruins?

One thing's for sure, the game would need to end where the first game started, and that's in Midgar. In this case, deep in it's ruins. I'm under the understanding that Cerberus went this route, and that's okay. Never can get too much Midgar.
Oh my god do you realize you're describing the entire second half of Final Fantasy VI...?

Not to mention a lot more "alive."

Seriously, did we all forget the last time Square Enix did a direct-sequel that fast? Final Fantasy X was...okay, I'm not gonna lie, it was sub-par as far as Final Fantasy games go (I still hold FF6 as the gold standard), but Final Fantasy X-2 was just unmitigated garbage. Nothing more than a wanking off of the franchise to capitalize on the success of the first game. Now I don't have any problems with sequels as long as they continue to present the story and characters in an interesting fashion, that's why we all loved Terminator 2 and the first two Star Wars sequels (Episodes V and VI). But when you're just using the franchise to wring out a few more dollars from the original story, that's just not only stupid and wrong but it's insulting the fans who enjoyed the original story and whose support warranted said sub-par sequel.

This is why I secretly think Squaresoft/Square Enix never make direct sequels to franchises but number their games accordingly, one to cut down on titles for games (becuase honestly, how would it look if Final Fantasy VII was called "Final Fantasy: Dystopian Future or if Final Fantasy VIII was called "Final Fantasy: Shittiest Game In The Franchise") and two because they're not supposed to be sequels to one another, but stories told by the same people, kind of like legends (Example, the Legend of Zelda franchise whose continuity can be best described as "nonexistant." There is no linked continuity, there is only The Legend of Zelda.) all being about different heroes and villains, but ultimately about heroes triuphing over villains and along the way friends are forged in fire (think "war buddies") and dastardly doings are done, two characters inevitably hook up (because let's face it, FFs 7 through at least 10 had some moment that tried to force a viewer emotion like Aeris' death, the whole "Eyes On Me" bullshit and Tidus and Yuna's underwater tenderness moment, all trying to re-capture the emotional content of FF6's Opera Event) and along the way the big bad kills the father of the main character and takes said father's sword (sorry, shameless Conan reference).

True. True.
