When I was at school, I was religious, homophobic, anti-alcohol and very quiet. I had long hair that went all the way down my back, and I never wore make up.

Now I'm non-religious, homosexual, a drunkard, and loud. My hair is short, and I usually wear heavy eyeshadow/liner/mascara.

They probably wouldn't recognise me.

I kept a low profile in high school honestly. As for my friend-friends, they've mostly kept in touch. I guess the few I haven't seen in a while will either comment on how little I've changed. Or maybe they'll comment on what little weight I may have possibly gained (from twig to rail).

I am unemployed, have two kids, one of whom is from a previous marriage, the second (who is actually my third) is a cute little bastard-ess, (I love her more than anything, though.) My fiancee works while I run the house, I am working on my first project car (A 1994 Cadillac Deville) which my friends from middle school would think is awesome, because we all wanted this car back in the late 90's, and I have two step-children. Not sure any of my friends would be proud of me, but hey, the sex is amazing, and I am happy with my life.

The reaction i normally get is:

"Dude, what the fuck happened to you when you went to Uni?!"
"What do you mean?"
"You were a quiet shy guy, and now you're out (round town) all the time, advertise for clubs and are just... cool. Y'know?"
"Urm... thanks. I guess."

The guy saying this was someone I got on with at school, but I was never exactly a good friend of his. Since leaving the rather opressive sixth form we went to, I've become a lot more conifident with my self and lead a very different lifestyle to the one I had/have (when on holiday).

And I've never been happier.

Most people would be quite surprised that I didn't study English or Music at university, and a smaller number of people I was closer to would ask why I hadn't created a genetically modified monkey with the ability for speech.

I haven't exactly lived up to expectations yet and don't think I ever will, as I set them a bit too high...

Oi! I did that for 3 years in undergrad! Nothing wrong with that job, really. Other than the fact you don't get paid what you should.

OT: "Programming? Really? I thought for sure you'd be a lawyer or writer."

Yeah, my interest in computers didn't start until after high school, so pretty much everyone there would likely be surprised to see my current profession.

"What? You smoked WHAT? Hey, why aint you in Uni yet? I mean, all of us are about to graduate and you are only just entering your first year! You published? I mean, you must have spent the last few years doing something right? Shit man."

Everyone had such high hopes for me back when I was in highschool. I was like, the rising star, the wunderkid, the "Ideal" student and "Perfect" boyfriend (Both terms used for me whilst I was at college). I was writing, hell, I was winning poetry competitions and shit like that. I was really going far, getting shit done.

Then shit went mental, I had a nervous breakdown, smoked and snorted my way through a very, very cold year, you get the general idea. Taken me a few years to get back on track. But coming across one of the people who knew me before I became me would be hard (I moved away from where I used to be. A very, very long way away) cause they are all... Successful. Either finishing Uni, working in Business, hell one of them even became rich.

They would pity me.

Look back at your time in high school, college, anything. If they could see you now, what do you think they'd say?

I think my high school friends would say:
"HOLY CRAP! YOU'RE A GIRL NOW!...Can I see your tits?"

trans ftw :p
Well, I can't beat that.

I'm still in touch with a lot of my secondary school friends - I don't think they'd react with much surprise on learning where my life took me. Only a few of us have managed to do what we wanted to do, the rest are trundling along or, in my case, still pursuing that perfect career. In terms of general happiness, though, I am so content right now, everything makes me smile, so I hope they'd be pleased.

The people I'm not in touch with I'm not in touch with for a reason, and I don't want them to see me yet. When I have arrived, then I'll rub it in their judgemental arrogant little faces, but right now they'd probably laugh at me.

I feel you. Honestly though, you're off to Uni after a nervous breakdown. That's a bigger achievement than waltzing in after school. You'll be successful, and by the time you are, they'll have all gone bankrupt, got divorced... got fat, y'know, the usual.

I actually had the opportunity to go to a high school reunion last year, and turned it down, after I pointed out that almost everyone from my high school still lives in the same shitty town and sees each other in the pub every week anyway.

But to answer the question: seeing as the majority of them are doing sod all with their lives and will go to their graves having achieved absolutely nothing bar maybe producing a few dipshit kids, I imagine they'd treat me with the same animosity that they did in high school, because I decided to leave town and try and make something of my life (still trying, but there you go).

In a lot of ways, they would probably be surprised. In high school, I blended in to the point I was near invisible. I was on athletic teams, but also a band geek. I was equally at home with my "advanced math" classmates as I was the stoned skater kids. I was a non-objectionable, timid, nice guy who people neither hassled nor outwardly adored.

Once I hit college is when I really started forming my actual personality. Years of meeting new people almost daily and maintaining the relationships involved in my fraternity and academic life have really turned me into a charismatic entity. I know my close friends were shocked at how freely I grew to wield my quirky sense of humor and natural playfulness to become a real attention getter. Also, the ease at which I'm able to talk to complete strangers was a new thing for them.

As far as college friends, I wouldn't think that there is much change. I'm a little wiser, but still like partying (though not as often) and keep the same interests.

I think they would try to berate me for not graduating, to which I would reply, "That's all fine and well, but could you just bring me my burger please, and don't forget the fries this time."

I always wanted to grow my hair long but my parents kept cutting it, I was finally able to grow it.

If my friends from primary school could see me, it would be "Holy crap! You actually grew your hair and it reaches partway down your back!"
I'm the opposite.
I grew my hair out for 10 years, since I was 16, and cut it really short in order to be taken more seriously in this F'd up job market. It worked, though.

Same for me I guess. Except I don't have tits...at the moment. And I didn't have friends in high school.

I sort of faded into the background all throughout highschool and college and no one really noticed me, so it would be more like "Hey isn't that the ghost that used to haunt our school, and weren't they a guy before?" Or something. I don't think anyone remembers me, so they really wouldn't recognize that I appeared to have changed genders.
Looks like that's three of us here. Most people would probably never recognize me though. I was bulked up in high school and never cracked the mask. Only my closest friends knew something was up, and they're my witnesses now. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
