If they don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy.

When it comes to home improvement, I am fairly useless but have done my share nonetheless. I am pretty good at cooking (im no chef but I don't find if difficult) and I believe myself to be fairly smart (common sense and think outside the box smart mostly), I can do taxes and banking related stuff since I am an accounting major.

My dog chewed through my ethernet cord. 30 minutes and a little solder later I had internet again.

I have fixed everything from diesel generators to electronics to robotics. I am an excellent handy man, and I can cook as well.

Sorry to disappoint ladies but this fine specimen of manliness is not currently single.

I left the newspaper for less than a month, and then I got a call from them begging me to come back. Turns out I'm the only person there that bothered to learn how to repair every single damned piece of equipment we use there.

I've done repairs to every vehicle I've ever owned. I even fixed my Intrepid when I hit a deer with it.

I can fix damned near any household appliance with next to no effort. My husband says I should go to college and go into repairing diesel engines. Its tempting, that's for sure.

Edit: I'm kinda rubbish at cooking, and my husband very much so, and neither of us are around the house for any length of time, so we tend to eat out alot.

I don't so much care that he can't fix shit, or can't cook, but I wish he'd at least wash some fucking dishes once in a while!

I think I'd prefer a guy who cooks to a handy guy... I eat every day but my appliances only break down every few years. One of my coworkers has a husband who cooks her homemade lunches every day, and dinner when she gets home -- he used to run a bakery -- and I am so jealous! (He's a geek and he cooks so he's pretty much the best possible husband. She'd better watch her back! :D)

I'm handy. I've kind of grew up that way. On the countryside, no less. Although I think the best way to go fixing something is to do it in the most efficient way. Otherwise it's just fucking around.

I'm really handy as a Female; I actually enjoy fixing shit and building stuff.
I can cook from scratch, too. So I don't really need a man.

I would prefer a man who could fix things over one who could cook and stuff... no, wait, I would like one who could do both.

I like to think the definition for handy is changing now. So yes I am handy, cause I'm always the one fixing the PC and other electronics :D

I could quite easily learn to be handy...

Problem is, I'm just not now. I can cook pretty damn good, if I say so, from anything I can find in the cupboard. I just can't wire a plug without second-guessing myself.

To somewhat answer your second question, I have had many women look down on me for that and I myself feel that the 'general' woman finds my lack of experience with all things handy to be like saying I play with Barbies.

My husband is pretty handy. I think when we first met, it wasn't his thing, but since he's become an engineer, I think he's more confident with fixing most things.

He's also an excellent cook and he can sew- he makes all our LARP constumes.

As for me, I'm not very good at practical things- I have serious problem envisioning how to put things together etc. and as such, I have no confidence to work on things, even if I understand how they work.
For example, I used to work in a garage, and know a great deal about cars, to the point where I can diagnose a lot of problems and know how to fix them, but I wouldn't dream of actually doing the work myself.

And here's to the one who bought a lathe purely for the hell of it.

More of an electrician/electrical engineer, personally, though.

...Crap, I've already been ninja'd out of my cookie....

OT: I'm female, but I just fix everything, myself, so that's not really an issue.

erm... well considering I'm a qualified tradesman ,and in my spare time I like to cook and tend the garden and I can at least do a cross stitch to patch damaged work clothes and darn a sock I'd say, can't a man ..... well do everything?
