I'm willing to believe this. After all M$ paid Namco to make Tales of Vesperia Xbox 360 exclusive in the west, even tho the PS3 version was a 'Directors Cut' with far more content.

Essentially if M$ can solve a problem by throwing money at it, well they have a LOT of money to throw

To be honest, if I was Microsoft I would probably try to arrange for the developers to show off their games exclusively on MY console. I mean, that's not that dodgy, its just good PR practice. Decrease an opposing product's visibility? Hell yeah. The companies have a choice in the matter. If Microsoft was blackmailing or extorting this special treatment, that would be a different matter.

Nope.
No no no no no no no no.
Just no.
I refuse to believe that even Microsoft is some stupid and so bleedingly corporate minded that they would ever come up with this plan and expect it to work.
I mean, how would they even get it to work? You can't keep something like what games they'll be on secret for long? How could they even pay for all the bribes?
I shall not be losing my faith in humanity this day!

OK so, E3 is still industry and press, right? Who is this going to fool? Are press going to forget to ask if a game will come to the PS4 when they don't see one at the demo. Also, aren't all these games going to be running on hotshit PCs tucked away under a table anyways?

Thread from where this is. [http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576869]

"Two of our most trusted neoGAF insiders have said that Microsoft is reacting hard to what has went down, and so they're going to try to dismantle PS4's image as a "for gamers" console by paying publishers and devs to not show their multiplatform titles during E3 on a PS4. In other words, even if the multiplatform version is coming out for the PS4, they won't be able to show them at E3, thus contributing to the perception that somehow Sony is getting significantly less support for PS4 than Microsoft is "for gamers."
My bolding. They aren't paying pubs and devs to not show their multiplatform games, they just want them all to be shown running on an XBox One over a PS4. They don't have to say the game is only coming out on Xbox. MS just wants all the games to be demonstrated on their hardware over the competitors. It is still somewhat scummy, but all this does is show off the game on one system instead of both systems. You will not be able to compare and contrast the games on both systems this way. Read the text!

It looks like a pretty desperate move to me. Seems MS is afraid the PS4 versions of the games will outshine their own.

I doubt this is true. The second any Dev leaked that they were being pressured into this kind of thing it there's be a Microsoft hate shitstorm.

Microsoft wouldn't be that thick. Would they?

It's microsoft. You're surprised?

This is a company who, during the 90's were known for the phrase Embrace, Extend, Extinguish.

They've been compared to the borg, because that's pretty much what they used to do.
If you had a company with a competing product, they'd buy you out.
And... If you refused, they'd crush you in any way possible.

Seriously, microsoft has a long-standing reputation for being evil.
It amazes me more that people have somehow managed to forget that...

I mean, their reputation was so bad when the original Xbox was released, they went out of their way to make the microsoft logos and such as tiny as possible.

Ah well. XD. I guess they've just slipped back into old habits really.
Oh. Someone else also remembered what Microsoft was like in the 90's. :p

I'd have to say... it's not impossible. Never discount the possibility of Microsoft displaying a combination of heavy-handedness, misguided notions of its own right to dominate and internal miscommunication.

Though I also wouldn't leave out the possibility that the reality, to the same effect, looked something more like this:

Microsoft: Hey, we'll make you a deal. Sign this contract, and we'll give you $$ for only displaying the following games at E3 on the XBox One.

Publisher: That sounds good. It doesn't really matter this early which hardware we display our games on, so long as we get to display it. And we're always looking for ways to shore up our expenses at these expensive trade shows.

M: Ah, yeah. About that. It looks like our hardware isn't quite as ready for prime-time as we expected.

P: Oh well. I guess we're back to showing on Sony hardware, then?

M: Not so much, no. Read that contract you just signed again.

You know, last generation brought voice chat, friends lists, online multiplayer, and motion based controls to the table. So far the only thing this generation seems to be bringing with it is console based Digital Rights Management, constant internet connection requirements, and built in cameras we can't turn off. The only guy who hasn't brought something that is going to negatively impact people is Nintendo, who mostly is just experimenting with dual screen gaming and giving users accounts. Oh wait, we got full body motion detection with Kinect! That's got to count for something, right? Oh yeah, that's based on the thing we can't turn off during console operation.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if this was true, M$ Has ALWAYS Used Money to fuck over Sony and its customers with Limited exclusivity and permanently exclusive titles like Tales of Vesperia, which honestly who the fuck plays an rpg on an Xbox that is wholly an rpg? M$ has pushed the 360 as the ultimate fratboy console its sickening and now with the Xbone they want to gouge and carve out an even more specific demographic and giving everybody else the rough end of the shaft

I love how everyone reacts to this as "grr bad Microsoft!".

Imagine what Apple would do were they involved in the console wars? Good God ... Scorched Earth policy ahoy. I swear Apple is the kind of company that would willingly unleash an unstoppable virus that would obliterate all OS it found, including their own, if it meant screwing a competitor.

Question: WWJD? (What Would Jobs Do?)
Answer: Whatever it took. From beyond the grave if need be.

I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but at this point the Xbox One couldn't get worse unless it gave you an STD when you used it.

This sounds really impractical, I can't really see it happening. On the other hand Microsoft has a history of being anti-competitive so perhaps something similar is happening, they probably would want to steal that "for gamers" brand from sony if they could.

Just because another company might do something if given the opportunity doesn't suddenly make it an okay thing to do.

If this rumor is true then people are perfectly justified in saying "grr bad Microsoft!".

So, just because one company would do worse, it's not bad? What kind of logic is that?
