If Titans was too Grimdark, Shazam is the complete polar opposite!

Because holy shit did they indeed Marvel/Deadpool the hell out of Shazam:

I think I see what's going on, they poured in all their Grimdarkness into the DC Streaming Service and have the blockbuster films now be more like Marvel.

Jeez. Now I am wondering how Aquaman and Man of Steel 2 is gonna look like.

I like it, feels like how things would play out if the premise was done realistically.

Not really digging the main actor (didn't like him in Chuck, don't like him in this), or the costume. It all just looks cheap.

I also don't think I so much as smiled at a single one of the jokes. On the one hand I'm happy that Shazam isn't all grimdark, but I really don't think I like this movie.

Oh my god, I just want more movies like Batman v Superman and not this cornball shit. Everything that DC has made after BvS has been so incredibly juvenile. One Marvel Studios is bad enough, there doesn't need to be another one.

Face it man, mainstream geek culture can't handle anything resembeling drama and intrigue and tension and blood when it comes to Superheroes.

This is why I mostly gave up on Superheroes in favor of Tolkien-esque Fantasy. Still waiting for Game of Thrones Season 8 next year despite how horribly written the last few seasons have been.

Shazam is about a kid that turns into an adult superhero

how dark do you want it
I would have at least give it the Spiderman 1 treatment, this looks too much of a comedy.

I mean, you could make a somewhat thoughtful coming of age story out of it. Like, nothing overtly dark and violent but at least something more contemplative.

Alternatively, of course, you could treat it as a metaphor for child soldiers. But... yeah, no, let's not do that.

To be frank, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to know what's the depression and what's just bad comedy lately.

Okay, am I the only one who heard "Billy Batson, I choose you" and immediately think of Pokemon?

Anyway, this is...meh, honestly. But on the subject of grimdark stuff, far as I can tell, makes sense that this isn't grimdark. Helps distinguish him from Supes, and it's much different from the Aquaman trailer. Different tones for different films and all that.

I really don't see the Deadpool comparison..? Just because its trying to be funny? This also looks very much like a family movie which Deadpool most definitely wasn't.

This movie is more or less a direct adaption of Geoff Johns New 52 Shazam! book, pretty much everything in this trailer is lifted directly from that comic.

If fact I've never seen a DC movie take so much direct inspiration from a specific source material.

And it's better for it, instead of being a hodgepodge of several different stories (like Man of Steel or BvS) or not understanding the characters at all (every other DCEU movie) at least this looks like a somewhat faithful adaptation. It looks fun, something the DC movies are sorely lacking. It's a welcome change, I just hope they can pull it off.

You're not refering to Batman v Superman as "intriguing", right?

OT: Not too familar with Shazam, but I assume a superhero called Shazam isn't going to be the most overtly serious. Trailer looks alright, although I did get the tiniest flashback to Green Lantern but certainly not as bad. Also that Game of Thrones name drop smacked of 'look at us being in touch with what the youth is into'. Don't write like this, please.

We'll see. Superhero movies are a dime a dozen now, and this doesn't exactly look to be to be changing it up much.

Eh, you can do grim and gritty when the hero and story suit it. A story about a kid given immense power specifically because he's the kind of kid who will go out and help people with that power is neither the hero nor the story. Dude might have the Wisdom of Solomon but he's still a kid

Have you forgotten who you are talking to? And yes it did have intrigue, or at least a semblence of it.

I dunno, Watchman did bloody well with all of those things. Batman v. Superman was utterly none of those things; its like a film example of the phrase "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."
