Oh my god, I just want more movies like Batman v Superman and not this cornball shit. Everything that DC has made after BvS has been so incredibly juvenile. One Marvel Studios is bad enough, there doesn't need to be another one.
Face it man, mainstream geek culture can't handle anything resembeling drama and intrigue and tension and blood when it comes to Superheroes.
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."
Is that in your own words or is that an actual reference to something?

...That was on purpose, right?

And hey, this trailer looks pretty accurate of the SHAZAM stuff I've read. The trailer also looks super light on actual story, so plenty of time for Billy to have his contemplative dark moments, and coming of age, and you know, a story. 99% of this content looks like first act stuff.

No I'm not that smart; its a quote that's been banging about in one form or another for yonks. One common source attributed to the quote is Mark Twain.

I am wondering where is the actual Superhero part of this movie? As in where are the big epic special effects and CGI for the big epic events, or even the big bad villain?

Because so far I think this movie is gonna downplay the EPIC in favor of the Slice of Life.

'Epic' has zero meaning anymore in the current movie landscape. Every superhero movie is 'epic big fights against a billion CGI enemies, with shiny skyscrapers collapsing and giant blue lasers shooting into the air.' When's the last time this cacophony of computer generated paste has actually impressed anyone?

Any superhero movie that takes a step back from that has the right idea.

Still it does makes me wonder if there will be any conflict hook in this movie at all.

I doubt they cast Mark Strong as a scarred character able to stop Billy's punch just for some one-off occurrence.

Regarding your statement that "Every big fight is a billion cgi faceless enemies"

When are we gonna get one big battle between an Army of Recognizable Superheroes vs an Army of Recognizable Super Vilains like this, because that is the big criticism of Supervillain in these movies because they all end up dying out?

Don't we already have plenty of that? I don't think there's a superhero ensemble movie that doesn't envolve heroes duking it out with oneanother or other super villains.

It's funny how superheroes went from helping those in need to fighting eachother for the sake of drama.

No I mean like litirally a Justice League vs a League of Evil because as you said most of these big battles are solely against Faceless Aliens/Goons/Etc. So the drama is lost.

To simplify imagine if the final battle in Batman v Superman was with Zod himself and not his Doomsday transformation, and Zod already had that histroy with Superman from Man of Steel?

Isn't it Biblical? I'm afraid I don't remember which book (though I'd hazard its Old Testament), but I'm fairly sure its derived from "A wise man speaks because he has something to say, a fool speaks because he has to say something"

I'd have assumed they go for Doctor Sivana for a Shazam film, he's the classic foe and all, but if they're going for a buff dude with a monocle I'd guess its actually Captain Nazi. Yes, there's a DC Comics villain called Captain Nazi. And I'm really hoping he actually gets called that onscreen in the film

Personally I love this. Looks genuinely funny and they really nail the personality of the character.

I don't get the Deadpool comparison at all because its not trying to be a major emphasis on meta humor or constant referencing. (Side note: the batarang and newspaper clippings don't count in that category btw)

Its a small scale, fun version of the Tom Hanks film BIG except with superheroes.

Looks like the people making it actually get the character, respect what he's all about and aren't embarrassed of the source material.

That's more than I can say about Man of Steel and BvS.

I think Black Adam is supposed to be in it isn't he? I know The Rock is playing him.

You know, you're not doing DC much favor by basicly saying that everything lighthearted/comedic in comic books was invented by Marvel.

Alright, i'd also love to see good attempts at darker tones in comic book movies, but really, you probably have picked THE least fitting superhero to grimmify.

Wow, a DC movie trailer that actually makes me want to go watch it!

With how DCs done so far I'll wait to see a few reviews but I'm actually hopeful for this one.

Ok, unlike all but one of the DC Movies thus far, this one actually looks watchable.
No, it looks completely corny.
Considering they are adapting a superhero from the 50's who's a little kid who says a magic word that turns him into an offbrand Superman, maybe that's ok.
