No, there are set spawn points - there are several of them, in various places on the map, so you won't necessarily know where people are going to appear, but a good spot will allow you a reasonable chance of getting a zillion kills, if so inclined. This depends on game mode though (I think), and possibly which version you are playing (PC version having way more people on a server).

One night I was playing Countdown, on Sabotage I think, and I was sneaking round the back with my dead silence, uav jammer and silenced Uzi, and suddenly found about 8 people who I killed in quick succession. It was only when I noticed that 3 of them were the same guy, who was afk, that I realised I was in spawn. I ended up telling them I was there, and trying to leg it out without killing anyone else. Got shot in the back of course :-(

Mind you, I'm not sure that Kogarian was talking about a spawn camping spot. Probably just a spot in general.

yeah i more or less play with friends exclusivley on xbl these days but thats because i don't really enjoy deathmatch gameplay and stick to mostly co-op stuff, i find when people are encouraged to work together the razing tends to be more friendly, "wow you got roasted, don't do that anymore." but in a nice tone of voice. i have on occation run into that in co-op games too though.

I was playing tenchu z when some 12 year old (I asked for his age) saw i wearing a tiger print vest and no pants because the thing reached my characters knees. He actually said the following "what the fuck are you wearing, are you one of those asians who likes that weird shit?" I was so perplexed by this train of thought i just started laughing until he went on, when i found out he was serious i laughed even harder. it is annoying but it is so sad most of the time it's hard to get mad about it anymore.

i'd also like to point out this is like the 3rd or 4th thread about this and i'm amazed the super geniuses here at the escapist actually let such a thing bother them, i mean really there is a volume button on your headset as well as other ways to deal with these people including setting your xbl to avoid them, i've set a number of people to be avoided so when i join random games i don't have to deal with them.

People keep mentioning the mute button, and the volume nobs, and what have you. But those things aren't always available or the best course of action. Sure, if I played XBL and I could mute specific people, I would mute everyone and move on. Sure, if I wanted to lose the ability to hear footsteps, I could just turn off my speakers on my PC when playing FPS games. When the insults come from text based origins, ignoring it is easier but it's always there.

It's not a matter of "gee, you must be stupid for not just muting that!" It's a matter of seeing the stupid shit in the first place. Unless you go about constantly muting everyone or playing without speakers, you have to hear the crap first, before you know who to mute or avoid. Right?

hey i've always said if a racist never says racist things, how can you tell he's a racist, i prefer people speak their mind and let me judge it's contents at my discretion then react accordingly.

Oh I don't disagree with that, just disputing that the volume control, XBL settings, and 'other ways' aren't enough to remove the annoyance of certain individuals.

Ha one day I decided to make my handle on CSS "Gray Prince" who is a character from a book. It was pretty astounding how many people called me "Gay Prince". I guess I never really thought of the consequences of the name in Counter Strike with so many angry 12 year olds yearning for attention. I changed my handle the very same day.
That could seriously work in your favor. Make a kill, then shout "You are now the Gay Prince's *****!" Angry twelve year old spawns and comes rushing back about as mad (and about as intelligent) as a wet hen. Kill number 2. Could be good for several kills before he actually begins to catch on.

I agree with you all. I think Microsoft should actually make use of that zone feature they have. I've put myself in the recreation zone because I play to have fun and relax, not so I can be bombarded by 12 year olds who don't have a single full length word in their vocabulary.
If I set myself in the recreation zone then Xbox Live should try to get me playing with other people in the same zone before pitting me against idiots. We should really get more for our £40 a year. The PSNetwork is free and even better, hardly anyone has headsets!

The only insult I?ve made in a long while was telling a British person to have fun cutting his steak with a spoon. On the topic of receiving insults I found the best way to shut them up is to just say "and?" as a response to most insults. Most of these people don't think about the words and just spew whatever comes to mind. The crowning moment of online stupid came in Rainbow Six Vegas 1 on the map Casino Vault. It was my best game ever with over 50 something kills and at the end of the match some guy tells me that I'm gay and I told him "ya so? I still kicked your ass."

playing online i'd like some skill in whatever you do. even insults.

I once had this really annoying asshole keep messing up, and he was blaming me for his inadequacy. i called him on it and he busted the awesomest non stop hypercombo insult from hell on me.

I laughed so hard i applauded him, thanked him for the laugh and left.

it was almost as if i could see a little counter on the HUD of life with lightning effects as strike after strike of right on the money insult was shot at me. 100-hit combo man, whoever he was, I'm still grateful for the awesome lulz he brought and I hope to find him again.

something with a "brok76" in it. there were some numbers behind it and some more letters in front of it but everybody called him "brock seventy six".

It's amusing to see people trying to insult me. Once they've given me all theys' got, I say "You done?", and once they respond, I simply say "Sticks and stones.".
It totally catches them off guard, and I still enjoy my online rounds.

Ok, so you want to insult someone really badly???.
Right , here's one that, I've found, tends to surprise tender cussers like westerners :)
I Wanna Fuck Your Mother -Bolkan Style- Though we like to use it now and then, it has a 75%
chance to get you seriously beaten.

Try it on the next guy that calls you n00b

+1 internets for the V for Vendetta reference, at least.

I don't tend to play on servers where the insults are really being flung around. On the rare occasion that I do blunder into one, I tend to leave.

Call me elitist (I totally am, you know) but I find that playing with people who are capable of recognizing that sometimes you can get killed fair and square is more fun.

Still, if you absolutely must play with such people, tailor the response to the insult. I just wish I had a few good ones to share, but my aversion to trashtalk servers means that I don't.... and I think I can live with that.

Children only take up the idea that in-game swearing is cool from older kids saying them, and media saying that kids do, whom both are only because of little kids in the first place. The only cycle of perpetual motion is stupidity.
