Hmm... trying to think of a hero whose family doesn't get completely nuked...
Kaim from Lost Odyssey. I don't know if he survives the game, having not completed it yet, but being able to live forever would be pretty awesome.

I don't really fancy being any of the 'main characters' - hasn't anyone noticed how much shit they have to put up with?
I think I'd rather be my Oblivion Wood Elf - I love the world, the people (with the mod so they don't look like a car crash victims), and the general lore - truthfully my Elf isn't that good (yet) but thats besides the point it'd still be cool.
If I had to pick a 'main character' I'd go for either Garrett or some other stealthy miscreant.
