...i would be suzaku im not cold enough to be lelouch(Code Geass is the best anime show)
Suzaku is too lawful and touchy-feely for me. He's also very "stereotypical" as far as "heroes" go.
Lelouch is a Magnificent Bastard - something that most anime heroes are decidedly not.

Yeah, assuming I could keep my personality (so I wouldn't have to be such a bastard) I'd go with Lelouch as well. If I can't, my avatar is my answer. Seriously, I've always identified myself as Lawful Good, and Suzaku's as Lawful Good as you can get without being a robot (ignoring what he did 7 years before the series started, of course).
...I'd actually be more of a bastard.
Lelouch has too many weak spots, though he makes for an interesting protagonist, to be sure.
You know, I literally just finished Code Geass 10 minutes ago. Fucking amazing ending. Seriously though, the thing that annoyed me with Lelouch was that he never admitted to being wrong. If he made a mistake, even if admitting it would help him, he says "No, it was all according to plan." For example
With Euphy's death, and him accidentally using the Geass on her. Afterwards, in all the numerous times Suzaku confronted him, he could have said that he used Geass on her accidentally. Suzaku may not have believed him, but the things that Lelouch actually ended up saying made him look even worse than he was, if that were possible. Hell, most of that was before he even hatched his master make-everyone-hate-me-to-unite-the-world plan, so he doesn't even have that excuse.

Hell, even when Nunnally, the one person he loved, confronted him, asking "You did it all for me, didn't you?", he ridiculed her for saying it, even though it was the fact that he was doing it for her which led to his defeat on three separate occasions.
That said, especially with the way the series ended, I definitely have to agree that Lelouch is an interesting character, but the number of times I wanted to punch him in the face - not because he was evil, but because he was so fucking stupid - is just a bit too high.

About Suzaku, I thought they actually subverted the stereotype fairly well. At the very least, they gave him a very compelling reason to be that stereotype; he wasn't suicidally heroic because he cared so much for people (although he did), he was because he felt he deserved to be punished, hence why he joined Britannia in the first place and always took the most dangerous assignments. Really makes the one time Lelouch used the Geass on him really ironic, when you think about it.

True, I wondered why he didn't make any mention of it. But then I realized that Lelouch is a manipulator - that's what he excelled at. It's a huge part of his character. He couldn't just be completely truthful out of nowhere. He was always looking to play the game. He was, after all, a Byronic Hero.

Suzaku did have a reason to care for folk, which was nice, but I still don't like the "hot-blooded idealistic thou-shalt-not-kill not very bright" stereotype.
It bugs me.
And while he wasn't that exactly, he cut too close for my taste.
@ the spoilers: You know, I hadn't thought of that. That's actually quite an interesting character flaw.

As for Suzaku, you missed my point. Most heros become those heros out of pure bloody altruism, despite the dangers. Suzaku did it because of the dangers. He was ashamed of his past, so he wanted desperately to die. Hell, he wanted worse than to die. He wanted to be completely punished. That's why, rather than suiciding, he joined Britannia, knowing that he'd have the worst of both worlds: scorn from fellow Elevens because he betrayed them, but still seen as inferior by the Britannians.

I actually think that his altruism grew up around that as a means of justifying his actions to himself. The point is, however, that his altruism wasn't the reason for his heroism, his heroism was the reason for his altruism.

Kenshiro

Because he's closer to a Western (slightly-homo-erotic) badass as you can find in the anime real of sexually undecided teenagers who haven't grasped the concept of a "Male" Wardrobe yet... (which is usually composed of NO SHIRT and NEEDS MORE FIST WRAPPING!)

CONTENT WARNING: For all the easily offended and more sensitive (aka Internet Unprepared) lot, the contents of this post are to be taken in a light-hearted playful (if not slightly mischievous nature)... so there, this makes everything I wrote ok with you...
As long as you aren't using that for serious anime bashing, I enjoy jokes about our lovable spiky-haired absurdly attractive mech-piloting anime protagonists.

If it was serious, on the other hand, I would have Divine Bustered you by now.

Oh no, I know.
I don't argue that he was an interesting character as well - he was more of a deconstruction of your regular anime protagonist, I think, than one who was played straight.

But I probably would not have gotten into the show if Suzaku had been the main protagonist.
Also, I like how we both seem to have more insight into the character we prefer.
It's interesting, psychologically speaking.
Fair enough. And yeah, that is interesting. By the way, when Lelouch started taking off his helmet in the Knightmares, I had this strange sense of deja vu. It took me around 5 episodes before I realized you used to have that as your avatar.

Yep!
I love Lelouch.

I actually have him as my desktop background.
He is probably one of my favourite characters of all time.
How odd. I hate Lelouch (although he's really, really interesting), but love Suzaku, Kallen, Nunnaly, Cornelia, Ogi, Euphy...you know, just pretty much everyone but him.
