Yeah, I meant word-only sigs. My bad.Diagonal Horizontality said:Go have a look at the WarCry [a href=http://www.warcry.com/forums/index/12-Off-Topic-Forum]forums[/a], then tell me with a straight face that it's a good idea. WarCry being The Escapist's sister site, signatures would be implemented in exactly the same way.
As an addendum to that, if you edit a post and quote somebody in the edit, they don't get a message about it. This has led to a couple of situations where I have seriously considered double posting.Zap Rowsdower said:If someone quotes you, and then that quote gets quoted, you don't get a message. Painful attempts at humour aside, it would be nice to correct the disparity between male and female members. That's more of a problem with 'gamer culture' as a whole though, and little can be done about it on a gaming forum where posts of more than a paragraph are abnormal. Perhaps I just want something fresh from this old hat, but differing perspectives on the ever rehashed discussions would at least rekindle my interest in the forum. But, like all replies in this thread, my post is laden with redundant egocentrism; the community is the hands of Kuliani and he'll do what's in Themis' best interests.
That is all.
Indeed. But just keep a comments section for each article/video for discussion.TeeBs said:The Forum, we should get rid of that.
I think I get what your saying. Like the better ones get "upvoted" to the top while the more worse ones get downvoted to the bottom/next pages, leaving the best in front.Owyn_Merrilin said:As an addendum to that, if you edit a post and quote somebody in the edit, they don't get a message about it. Another thing I'd really like to see is either a Facebook style like button on people's posts, or a thumbs up/thumbs down system, which could be implemented as rep, gold, cookies, or what have you. It's not a huge deal, but every now and then either someone will post something that is in complete agreement with my position on an argument, or they will post something so mind bendingly awesome that a simple quote with a response isn't good enough. The guy who put up "Both of them." as his response in last night's Cougar thread comes to mind -- if you were there, you'll get it. If you weren't, it was hilarious in context, but a bit crude to be posting a second time on this topic.
Ouch, kinda harsh. How about just improve it by bringing back what was good?aschere van she said:Destroy the entire site and roll it back to when it was actually good.

It was the latter one, actually -- the first option would destroy the flow of the conversations we have here. I'm coming at this from more of a facebook angle -- I'm sure you know this, but every post on Facebook has a like button next to it. If people agree with a post, think it's awesome, or just want to annoy someone by liking a post about a bad day, they can click the button, and it'll show a number of likes, which anyone can then mouse over and see who all liked it. The standard forum version of this keeps a running tally of likes and dislikes (or whatever the theme is) and has pretty much the effects you noted.Irridium said:Indeed. Would keep things on track and tight.

Or are you referring to like a user's personal "karma system". Cracked.com uses something like that, and it looks interesting at least. The people who make the best posts get more karma from others while the less great people get negative, meaning people are more likely to just ignore them. Could probably cause people to be more mindful of what they say.
Either are interesting ideas that deserve a looksie.
I don't know what you meant was good? Was the community good back then?aschere van she said:Like the community?Dan E said:Ouch, kinda harsh. How about just improve it by bringing back what was good?aschere van she said:Destroy the entire site and roll it back to when it was actually good.
Yeah. And now it is significantly less good (imho).Dan E said:I don't know what you meant was good? Ah I think I get it now. I don't use Facebook, so yeah. Although I was thinking of having the "like/dislike" thing for the user instead of the post. It could replace the post count. Perhaps when you like the post it counts towards the person's overall likes. Although that could cause some ego-related problems if someone has incredibly high likes. Or maybe not, who knows. Interesting concept though, I'd be interesting to see how it plays out.Owyn_Merrilin said:It was the latter one, actually -- the first option would destroy the flow of the conversations we have here. So I take it this isn't your primary account? Because my join date is a few months before yours, and I'm not exactly one of the original members.
