If you could choose 1 game to be wiped from history forever... What would it be?

I don't think anyone, even the avid players, would shed too many tears if I strapped World of Warcraft to the table and put it to sleep. Sure, there'd be some initial outcry - I spent two years of my life working on this and have nothing to show for the effort! - but with the healing effects of time, and the support of their friends and loved ones, I'm sure we could all agree that it's really for the best.

The ambiguity of the thread title is bait for saying things about games which are not video games, I think we all agree. Therefore, Candyland has gone too long without abuse. (There are video game versions of a lot of bad boardgames, hmm.)

Oh, and Twister can go to hell.

Yea! Let's all jump on the "We hate Halo" bandwagon! Wy do you all hate this game so much? It's no more than a popular FPS.

My pick is...... WoW because it eats people's lives.
No more than a popular FPS. A very popular FPS. As in "almost sold a console" popular FPS.

And that's why we (I) hate it. What's wrong with a game being so popular that it is thought to be the holy grail of all games ever? Well, it's a thing called diversity. You see, when it comes to the attention of publishers that "that game" sold like extra years of life to the terminally ill, they did the "copy them" routine, and Halo substitutes or equivalents became the ham and cheese of the following paragraph.

Here's the problem. Imagine a world where everyone only ate ham and cheese sandwiches. Finding anything other than ham and cheese or "substitutes" or "equivalents" is nigh impossible. That sort of sucks. What if you don't like ham and cheese sandwiches? I guess you're fucked. So in our world, what if someone didn't like Halo? They're just as fucked. See, I personally didn't think Halo was as good as it was made up to be. Good advertising does not a messiah-game make. Also personally, I don't like being fucked (figuratively), so why should I have to be?

EDIT: For me, it's still a tie between Deus Ex Invisible War, Halo, and WoW (for basically the same reason as Halo).

Oh WOW. You're concerned about children on a site where the main attraction is a British misanthrope that swears constantly. Well fuck you. Listen, children go to the Halo official site or something, not here. If you don't like it, too bad. Go play some of the worst series ever made. You little 13 or 14 year old good for nothing waste of space dickhead who likes Halo, which isn't a great idea because it's too torrid a series.

Halo has done things that have been done before and since better. Flood = Headcrabs (HL series), sci-fi has been done to death, and might I just say that the supersuit was concieved in Half-Life and basically perfected in Crysis. In fact, Crysis is Halo but with more believeability and better guns. Also, before you say "So you got pwnd once, get better at Halo", NO. I have NEVER played Halo online.

Your words, they sound like those of a flame war inducing troll. Yet you are still here, it confuses me.

Simple answer: I'm not a troll. Complex answer: I'm not a troll, I actually think when I play games and usually find entertainment value in them, yet in Halo, I found none.

Final Fantasy 7: I can't get into this game and I have no clue why it's so inhumanly popular. The graphics are bad, the story is weak and confusing, and the hardcore fangirls/fanboys are just obnoxiously annoying.

Streetfighter 2: This seemed to start the whole trend of "Hey, let's never go to the next game, let's just keep calling it the same game but with a different subtitle!" It's storyline is convoluted and dumb, and sometimes it feels like the whole thing is becoming more and more packed with Ryu clones...each character is EXACTLY like Ryu but with slightly different looks (all have the HADOOKEN, the Splfltoogan or whatever that stupid spin kick is called, and the SUREYOUCAN!) With Bison now permanently dead, there's really no good villain and no reason for all the billions of "street fighter" tournements.

Mortal Kombat: Because spelling it with a "k" is just more funny! This game and it's innovative "ultra violence!" is just inhumanly annoying. The dumbest and most annoying high pitched shrieking character JUST SO HAPPENS to always be the guy that wins anyway (that being Louie Kang).

To me that seems like troll material.

@ Iron Ninja: No, I'm backing up my argument. Now, if I was a troll, I'd be insulting you about now, but, meh. I wasn't really talking to you. So, have a scone, a cup of black tea, and think about your day.

God Hand.

Then I wouldn't feel some bummed about Clover Studio closing, there not being a sequel or it only being available for PS2 (which I don't own anymore) and it not being available for the PC or 360.

I loved that game.

I'm going to go with World in Conflict. That game got rave reviews, sold like hotcakes, and has an absolutely rabid fanbase, and that absolutely scares me. It has no base building, no resource managements, units are just granted at pre-determined times in set numbers and are balanced strictly "more expensive is better." It's not an RTS; it's a dungeon-crawl with tanks. And it's incredible popularity makes me fear that developers will see that and latch onto these ideas in their moneylust, thus killing true RTS games.

I don't feel compelled to "defend" Halo, but something needs to be said. It is not entirely original, to be certain. The alien thing has been done to death, the super suit has been done to death too. Most everything about the story and setup are old news. But it did something. Same with Half Life. It tells a similar story to Doom, just with a cooler suit, weapons, and graphics. But Halo did something. It put these old tired elements together along with some things that were fresh at the time and out came the unstoppable juggernaut that is the Halo series. It continues the tradition of a lot of FPS. It gets its roots and story from a bargain bin, but changes the gameplay enough to make people take notice. This can be applied to the FPS in general. From Wolfenstein 3D to Doom to Goldeneye to Perfect Dark to Half Life to Halo. All of these games have at least one thing in common. They change the way FPS are played. It is the gameplay that they change. yes you can argue that the Halo story sucked. And yes you can argue that Halo has inspired some bad clones since its inception. But I bet everyone of you can name at least one good FPS that has come out since then and find some kind of correlation between it and Halo. And to the guy that said that Halo ripped off Metroid, I hope you are talking about the old Metroid series. If not you should know that Halo came out one full year before Metroid Prime did.

FF X-II's one saving grace was the job system

but Halo for sure, just so we can all play some original FPS games. system shock 3 anyone?
So you'd get rid of one of the most innovative shooters of the early 2000's to get... a sequel? Hardly original.

I'd get rid og Psychonauts, as then you wouldn't have people preaching its name from the mountaintops just because Yahtzee liked it. You can't move for Psychonauts praise. It all just felt to forced to me, and was just average.

Edit: and before anyone questions how Halo was innovative, it was a decent mixture of vehicular combat with relatively good AI. It was , at the time, the most fun you could have with a shooter on a console in my honest opinion. If the other companies started copying it to death, then that's hardly Halo's fault.

DAMNIT! WoW wasn't mentioned till page 3ish so I thought I had an original post, nevertheless, my vote is still WoW, I haven't seen some friends in years, they just sit there, huddled over a keyboard, killing boars...Not only that, but the game has started a market for WoW gold, people are paid next to nothing in poor countries to collect gold, then gamers buy it for real money. What other game has practically created a market for slave labor?
Second life. People pay big money in real life for stuff on there don't they??
Yeah people who have big money to spent is comparable to slave labor -.-

Another vote for WoW here ^^;
Dude, what? My point was that people are working for next to nothing harvesting gold on online games, the largest of which is WoW. I'm not comparing people with money to blow to slave labor.
