Say you were asked right now by an all-powerful being, how long do you want to live for and ill make it happen, you can stay youthful and healthy, but everyone else around you lived the same as they always would how long would you go on for, you have to choose now you cant get to the end and go oh just another 5 years...

i think id go for about 400 years, after that i think id be bored by then but itd be good to see how technology comes along

bear in mind - your friends and family would die, there could be some nuclear war and you could be stuck in wasteland for 200 years, etc

Forever.

Why not? When I'm sick of life, I'd probably be more than happy to off myself. But I'd rather not be limited by time.

Forever. I'd outlive everyone I ever knew and ever will know, but I'd be a better person for it, I'll see so many amazing things and will hopefully see humanity progress rather than fall. Imagine living 1000 years ago and being told that humans would fly the skies in giant metal birds and land on the moon and be able to communicate with someone on the opposite side of the planet in seconds. Do you think people back then would have loved to see that happen? I want to see what will happen 1000 years from now...

1000 years or so. Like the asari from mass effect.

Or maybe I'd just choose to be immortal and decide when I should die later on.

Well, I would say 'until I'm 50' but I'm pretty sure that even without an all-powerful being, I'd make it to 50 unless something extremely bad happened to me. So I guess I'd like to live until 2800 or so, but only if I have the option of killing myself whenever I get fed up with living. Which will probably be when I outlive everyone in my life, and realise how empty and meaningless my life has become.

I'd want to live until I said a certain word that would instantly kill me. That way, I'd be able to do whatever I wanted to, and I'd be able to end it if something catastrophic happened (i.e. world exploded and I didn't make it on a spaceship to fly away)

I'd keep living until I was not longer curious or the weight of having seen so much life and death becomes unbearable.

Until I'm 100. Exactly 100 years since I was born, down to the second.
Just so I'll be remembered as the loopy old man that ran halfway down the street, covered in ice cream and syrup, when he suddenly fell over and died on his 100th birthday.

Just 'cause I can.

I suspect you mean "never die" as opposed to "live forever" (never die is invulnerability, live forever is immortality, but a bullet will still kill you).

Lots of people say forever/never die because they are afraid of death or want to "see where humanity will go." I would want to never die for those exact reasons and would hide my un-deathness from everyone else. Plus living through the events of Star Trek would be kickass.

Well seeing as I never will live forever, I have already determined that I will be a crazy old guy determined to live to 143.

well... considering that my body wont decay in any way after my desition is made, i would say forever

but if this is one of those cases where i still get old but can not die, i would say 100... and proceed to take care of my body to get to those 100 in a really good shape.

Forever, of course.

I can get over the deaths of others, but I can't get over my own death.
