I like how its assumed that its just going to be easy to find him and kill him once your back in time. I'd say it would be harder to find him rather than kill him and whats more the man ("murdering sociopathic fuckhead" status to one side for a brief moment) was a prevailant political figure and decorated soldier in the first world war, a person as high profile in any country is definately going to have a high security detail.

I'd do it. But more because I'd kick myself in the head fprever knowing that I'd had a chance to travel in time and not taken it. Some opportunities, you just don't knock.

No, because the soviets will go into power and it will be red alert 1
but with less Vietnam War tech and more trenches and gases.

OT: Yes, but only if I could change it back cause I want to see what would happen without screwing over the original timline.

No. All you have to do is step on a blade of grass to fudge up the universe. Any number of thing could go wrong, especially something like this where we're deciding the fate of a major world leader and the continued existance of 6 million people.

One example: a couple thousand of those now not dead Jews come to America. One of them takes the job of someone who originally had it, who then has to take someone elses job, who takes someone elses job, and eventually you get down to your grandaddy's job so he takes another one and therefore never meets X or never starts hanging out at Y and therefore never meets your grandmother and congradualtions you no longer exist.

Absolutely!

Not for any humanitarian or ethical reasons, just out of curiosity to see what the hell the world would turn out like.

As the great Spoony One put it, "We are gonna bend over the space-time continuum tonight!"

Well if its mid-thirties then the final solution might not have been designed yet, depends on your idea of mid thirties, although Hitler probably already had the idea to get rid of them in some way, humane or not..

If Hitler died then probably the Nazi movement would have carried on only with either Himmler or Goering in charge, possibly with even greater consequences..

It could even have won the Nazis the war if the new Fuhrer was slightly more competent in military decisions than Hitler was.. ie not invading Russia before finishing off the UK..

Personally there's no point as we've already faced the trials of these periods, lets no have to deal with any of it again..

killing Hitler probably wouldn't have ended World War 2, since there was already huge tension between Germany and other nations mainly due to the Treaty of Versailles. killing the assassin of Franz Ferdinand probably would do the job though
You really think his assassination was that big of a deal?
They would find another reason to start the war,but if you do believe that it's because of the assassination there would be another member of Bosnian organization to shoot him.

please see my previous post on this topic. stopping the Archduke's assassination might not have prevented the conflict in Europe, but if it had begun on a different pretext it's possible that Russia would not have become involved, which would shift the balance of power in favour of the Central Powers

No, because no one will ever be able to predict that, if done, how the present day would be different. Could be better, could be worse, but it's not a risk I would take.

Exactly, science fiction has demonstrated this time and time again.

'In the minds of writers of speculative fiction, stuff happens, and a plot ensues'...

I wouldn't, but not cos it would be bad, but because the results would be completely unpredictable. Most likely not much would change: Hitler would become a martyr to the cause and some other party member would have stepped up to fill his shoes. But still, better the devil you know etc etc.

No. Killing Hitler may create an alternate reality worse than ours. I'd rather keep the world we have now, with all of its flaws.
If Science-fiction-time travel movies have taught me anything, it's this.

Nope.

Despite the tragic death of millions, overall the world turned out well enough in the long run.

As a german, i'd be too scared that if Hitler died earlier, Germany could've been completely obliterated or that Hitler could've been succeeded by someone "better" and i would have to live in a facist police-state.

Yes i would just so that we would have no more go back in time and kill hitler threads.

instead we will have "would you go back in time and kill herman goering" threads.

I wouldn't try to kill him. I'm of the frame of mind that time-travel isn't possible simply because if it was (like it is in some movies) how many time paradoxes would there be with all the idiots out there?

So if I had a chance I wouldn't, simply because I beleive it would be pointless. Something would happen (for instance, other people comming back in time to kill him would wind up only killing me instead or something) or the kill would be pointless because it'll then turn out that hitler wasn't born as hitler - he was actually some random guy but when a activist called hitler died he took his name and continued (thus meaning that I would only be killing the wrong guy and potentially setting in motion a series of events which only make the future come true in the end).

No, Dejobaan advised me not to do that if I got randomly transported back in time as it is usually highly unsuccessful.

Also the whole time paradox and screwing up the future and what not.
