If you could go back to any period in time, where would you go and why?

I would like to see if christ really existed just to put an end to this madness between who is right and who is wrong. Then go see the roman empire at its peek. (oh I'm sorry if i offend anybody in this post i do not care if you chose to believe or not this is just my opinion)

1980s

Sanitation, some of the modern marvels we enjoy (mm, fridges) and close enough that my knowledge is enough to guarantee me becoming a millionaire thanks to foreknowledge. All without giving up such wonderful inventions like the Internet, cellphones, LED-technology...

The world-wide web was invented in the 90s... plus, it was really slow.

I know. But it would be invented and expanded to current state before I'd turn 50. So I'd have to wait... what... 10-15 years after going back? Easily done. Meaning, I could go back in time without permanently giving up any of the modern day comforts: they'd be invented within my remaining lifetime. Heck, knowing what stuff panned out and what didn't (both from an engineering and from marketing viewpoints) might allow me to hasten some inventions by perhaps up to a decade.

Got to agree with shogunblade here. I just want to see my favourite band. So, 1964. See Pink Floyd live as many times as I can. Die happy. That's all. I don't want to alter history or save a lot of people, I don't believe I should be allowed the power to do that.
