Arcanine or Umbreon.

Arcanine would be a giant fluffy dog that could give me lifts to places and could breathe fire (I'm a dog person).
Umbreon is a ninja-dog, and can do things like feint attack (the never miss attack) and double team (the never be hit attack). Alsolike I said before, I am a dog person ... oh, and umbreon has wicked high defenses, which I'm sure I'd find a use for (like for hlding my weight so he can run me places, or for sneak attacks from the top of a nearby building).

Metagross, a walking psychic tank with the mind of a supercomputer.

Darkrai, a nightmare-inducing spirit/demon thing that can literally put you in a coma.

Tyranitar, a mountain demolishing mini-Godzilla. It can also surf, somehow.

Rayquaza, a 23-foot long dragon that controls the weather and survives on moisture, and can stay airborne forever.

In real life, when you don't have the convenience of little capsules that apparently lobotomize your minions, you'll be wishing you picked the small, cute and loyal ones. Because as it is if you try ordering those around you'll wind up eaten, blasted away, trapped in a neverending nightmare, or worse. Not to mention the hassle you'd have trying to transport them everywhere.

Besides, everyone knows that the character with the super-awesome-badass team is the one that always loses to the character with the cute-but-reasonably-cool team.
