More introspection or understanding. The ability to view the long term, so like this people won't sabotage themselves.
Very few people do what they do because they're evil. It's because they are stupid, don't understand or have cooked themselves some way to justify their actions. Just being more sensible really.
If tampering with human nature is out of the question then I'll go with the ability to save and load in real life.
If we're not going to be sensible, this should take care of it.

I'd say that I'd have everyone become more scrutinizing, while accepting that they may not find the answers they are looking for in their lifetime, and to be accepting of people who base their way of living around an incomplete rationale different from your incomplete rationale. And if their life-style begins to impede upon yours, don't just burn bridges with them, but actually work to figure out a solution.
If not that, then I would have leadership abilities go through the roof, then, monarchies for everyone, a single person rules, they make the best possible decisions rather than be pushed around by the people's stupid whims. People at large can't be trusted to make smart/good decisions.

If I'm clicking on the skill tree? I'd select increased empathy. Maybe then we'd stop, y'know, being how we are to each other what with the ignoring other's dire situations, war, poverty, etc. and so on. I might pick increased intelligence if the effect description was going to amount to close to the same thing, but I think the empathy would win out over all. Not really the point to be proper to each other just for propriety's sake, I'd rather there was some feeling in it.
Definitely immortality, or rather (since we're increasing a stat) increase the healthy lifespan by 3^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^3 years. Dying is approximately the worst thing, so that's high up on the list of Things That Must Be Fixed. If I could trick the super genie governing levelups, I'd also lower birthrate until we get off Earth for obvious reasons.
Remove the concept of gender, racial, and sexuality prejudice. Give us that animal mentality of being primarily concerned with adaptation, survival, and reproduction. Imagine how much we could achieve if the entire human race just worked towards the betterment of mankind together.

on topic, upgrade space technology so we can get off this hunk of rock and colonise other planets, I want to go to Mars already.
and the resources we gain in space will surely help other people back here on earth build even more awesome stuff, which will get us even more stuff which we will use to build more awesome stuff.
I would have to go with empathy to. There would be alot less conflict (war, arguement and etc) if people were able to understand other people feelings more.
