Wow a lot of people Like the really "not so nice places to live."

Well I'd choose to live in the Babylon 5 Universe (as long as I am NOT on Earth after the Drack war).
If I would be on Earth after then I would Prefer to be in the Mass Effect Universe (Bit of a Toss up in reality as they both seem fairly nice for Humans to live)

Also the Firefly Universe looks ok too.

Now for the ones that I cannot see myself EVER wanting to be in:

Halo (almost all of Humanity is killed)
Battlestar Galactica (same reason)
40K (Everywhere sucks except the Tau empire {I'm a Guard player and I really mean that})
Half Life (The Combine shall Die [when valve get around to it])
Alien (I am afraid of Parasites)


All others that I have seen/read are a bit of meh

The Star Trek Universe. So beautiful and deep, a vast number of races/species, epic spacecraft, warp drive, advance mathematical knowledge etc.

You forgot Holodecks.

Realistically, I'd stick with the more peaceful sci-fi settings. While I'm a huge Warhammer 40k fan, the universe it's set in would probably be the absolute worst place to live. If you're not being ground under the tyrannical, Orwellian boot of the Imperium, you're probably getting shot/stabbed/disembowled/vaporized/etc. by any number of frightening alien, robotic or daemonic entities. The best-case scenarios I can think of would be if you were either on a remote feral world with so few resources that nobody bothers with it, or if you embraced the Greater Good and joined the Tau Empire (they're still somewhat heavy-handed though).

Isaac Asimov's "I, Robot" universe (the original book, not the film) would probably be my pick. Sure robots control things, but at least they're benevolent ones.

Star Wars. And I'd be a super powerful jedi who's Luke Skywalker's best friend and my name would be Raven Darkshadow, and they'd discover that I had an even higher midichlorian count than Anakin Skywalker, also they'd be special midichlorians of a new kind, and then I'd fight all the forces of the empire at once and I'd cut them all down with my lightsaber and Leia would say "You're amazing, Raven!" and also now and then I'd eat cookies.

Yeah, I agree with that -

Imperium civvie = seriously crap life

Imperial Guardsmen = Just the mince for the meat-grinder

Space Marine = I want to be a human, not some jumped up supersoldier guy (as a semi-fanatical guards player I generally believe (except Space Wolves) that all SM should be killed as 'mutants')

Arbites = Hated by all civilians (pretty much)

In T'au empire = basically a lower class of person in a 'good' society with (implied) mind control devices to enslave another race (Vespid).

That's why I choose HALO kids!

As awesome as some sci-fi and fantasy universes are, I would have to discredit most as being too violent and crazy to actually enjoy living in them.

The lazy guy in me would prefer to find a universe were I don't actually need to work or anything, just clown around all day enjoying and exploring the fantastical world, and Narnia, as cliched as that world might be, would be perfect for the lazy guy, if I was there during on of the many peaceful years, just hanging out and partying with centaurs and satyrs and nymphs and stuff all year long, Cool, sign me up for that.

I would choose Firefly, but that means I either live on an Alliance-controlled planet or on some third-world planet like a hermit. There are some pretty peaceful places in Star Wars. Technically I could already be living in the Doctor Who universe - just in an alternate one.

Star Trek - Specifically in the federation. Barring borg attacks which are unlikely, they have replicators, colonies and sufficient technology to render capitalism, nationalism, religion and so forth obsolete.

Agreed. The Star Trek universe is, more or less, the perfect future

EDIT: I do love the idea of being Mal Reynolds but, in reality, would it be all that fun? Firefly is one of those things that's more fun to watch than it would be to live, whereas Star Trek is just paradise (specifically the time of the original series)

I'd live in the universe from 'Alien'. And I'd live as f**king far away from one as possible. Pointless? Yes. Possibility of finding a dead Predator's technology? Awesome. (I'm in control so the cross species thing would work). Before anyone tells me that living in Predators universe would make more sense, be aware that I would only steal from a dead one, and killing them isn't easy unless your an ex-body builder or have an annoying lisp.
