So, I watched the escapist presents on griefing and I thought what if I made an MMO with a rule that says no griefing or trolling(with in confines, like no scamming). I think that would make a good rule for any game, but I don't think I could ever design a game. so, what if you where to make an MMO, what would be some of the rules or regulations you would have?

Good luck moderating that.

Other then the obvious no cheating I'd not have a single rule, too complicated, spoils the fun.

It would not have anything to do with Tolkienesque fantasy.

At all.

Ever.

Or Star Wars.
Naughty, naughty, someone didnt read the op.

Rules? I'd go the SWG approach and give everything a unique serial number, and mods would be able to see all transactions involving that weapon.

EDIT: Suppose I'll add, a 40k MMO, where as your level increases, the point value (size, essentially) increases. Low levels would be a single Space Marine or squad of Guardsmen, high levels would be a squad of Space Marines, or a platoon of guardsmen controlled from an RTS perspective.

An MMO based on Carcosa, built in the style of FOnline and Ultima Online.

My MMO would end up turning into my own online facist regime. There'd be so many rules that your head would explode.

I'd probably put out no rules. If someone's offended by SOMEONE ELSE in the game, it's their problem for caring too much. Of course no cheating and such like that would be in effect, but as for limiting what they could say or do, I really wouldn't do a whole lot there.

It would be a trench-warfare territory based game. Probably about 50 years into the future and very steampunkish. There would be 2 factions, fighting for land. Players would have to work together with their teammates to schedule offensives together to claim land. Each won battle would give you exp which would lead to a promotion. You start as a basic footsoldier, but then work your way up through different paths. Some of the paths would be : heavy weapons (miniguns ect) armoured division (tanks, trucks, convoys ect) medical, command (ordering other people around in bases and parts of trenches.

A mmo set in the Jack and Daxter universe.

You could hover around on you sci fi skteboards (mounts)
Experience with different kinds of eco (different classes: green eco user, dark, light etc)
Get sweet guns, run through dungeons filled to the brim with metal heads, and ever bigger metal heads for bosses, and do some pvp in the Wastelands, or just cruise around in Haven City.

I would buy it (then again, I am a huge Jak and Daxter fanboi).

Only rule: DONT INSULT THE OTTSELS

I would like to experiment with an MMO that is 99.9% player driven. Towns are not populated with homes belonging to a random NPC, the house belongs to a player, home to treasures and rewards of his conquests. Also, I would have it have a PvP thing where its not just battles, its like you can commit crimes. I would like to imagine spending an afternoon tailing an impressive looking high-level player with some friends, casing his house, and the second he leaves for a quest me and my friends sneak in after lock-picking and ransack the place. Of course this kind of thing is level moderated so a level 80 cant take the hard-earned spoils of a level 10, but Imagine the feeling you would get, returning to your home and noticing that the sword you just bought and stored in a chest beside your bed went missing. another thing I would like to implement is a CSI style thing that you can use to track down the kidnapper if he made it really obvious. Aside from that, it would be First person and play like oblivion, with some impressive hand to hand combat and executions, since I am a HUGE fan of executions.

no one has seamed to read the topic sentence.
It's because the thread title implies a different and much more interesting topic than the OP does.

Anyway I stand by my wish for a FOnline system for such matters.

I already have the plans and there would be very little rules outside of the whole no cheating thing... If people are trolling just shoot them, as there are no pre-conceived factions to force people to play together if they want.

A zombie survival mmo, with a large emphasis on leveling skills rather than levels, using everyday items as weapons in the heat of battle and making death have slightly large penalties to emphasis the importance of survival

Must be in character, and not use common internet slang, that or not being able to talk with anyone unless you invite them to a conversation. Honestly my own version of an MMO would have little to do with actual people, I hate having other human beings ruining my game playing time.
