hmmmmmm, good thread

i suppose it would be like a team survival thing, challanging, and it would probably have a stamina meter of some sort, and possibly food or something like that too.

if it were team survival it would be like gauntlet (for those of you who played it), the single player would just be one person fighting for survival, as you add people in multiplayer, it adds more enemies, raises the difficulty etc.

If I were to make a zombie game it's be the freaky lovechild of Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3. I really like the atmosphere and pacing of L4D, but I also like the feeling of scale and destruction in Fallout. So basically, it'd be the combat and gameplay of L4D with the non-linear gameworld of Fallout 3. Oh, and with more weapons.

Personally i liked Left 4 dead and all the resident evil games but i have always wandered what it would be like to have my own custome made zombie game.

What would your zombie game have?
-Gameplay
-Story
-Zombie types
-ETC.

I would have a system where you had a time limit to make a baricade using a set of tools you spawn with, these tools would consist of object movers and placers. After the time limit zombies of different types such as:normal zombies,a slow zombie that had alot of health, and a fast zombie that could camoflauge itself.

Basicly mine would be a baricade version of L4D.
A free roaming first person shooter in which your in new york with zombies roaming everwhere.

I have 2 ideas....

1) I was thinking of going with a long version (and a different, more involving story) of House of the Dead (In other words, a light-gun game). Having to choose only one weapon throughout the entire game (as, coincidently, you are forced out of your home before you take the other weapons.) From there, you wander around the town, meeting up with other survivors, before you decide to make a last-ditch effort to get to a nearby airport in hopes of finding a usable helicopter. Or there could be another story line (either during, after, or replacing the previous story) in which a zombie bites you, giving you a time limit for the rest of the game, or until you find a cure, IF you find a cure. You can prolong the time limit with either health packs, meat scattered around, or stopwatches (to represent time).

2) I was also thinking of having a cross between Call of Duty (different perspectives from different people) and World War Z (having global events in both well-known areas, like New York, to remote places, like somewhere in Australia). It would have wow moments like the nuke in CoD 4, which I'm thinking would be, after fighting your way to the top of a building in New York, you finally reach the roof, where (I'm thinking one of these, if you reply, choose one) either a zombie grabs you and tries to bite you, but falls, leaving you dangling of the Empire State Building, or you see the full extent of the destruction of the zombies.

what ever happened to other types of undead-like ghosts, wraiths, revanants, et cetera?
You can't shoot incorporeal undead in the head. Thus, no fun.

Besides, they already have a game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/6165-Review-Ghostbusters].

It would be like that movie "Land of the Dead"

Where the inital apocalypse has already happend and humanity is scattered in isolated pockets, some are bigger and more successful settlements then others. Your job, along with others on a crew or team, is to go out and get supplies or pieces of needed technology from the infested areas and going back and forth between various settlements running messages and the like. It would be third person shooter like the newest RE installments.

Left 4 Dead/Resident Evil Outbreak style premise but with a more RPG base of character customisation. Game is played from First person with some management elements in later sections.

You are a normal person and the zombie apocalypse happens. You have to get yourself and a group of survivors to safety which takes the form of some sort of stronghold. You get a basic map, which gives you possible ideas of places to go to (but which aren't actually marked as humanity stronghold here), you have to manage your own supplies, find other survivors and eventually set up encampments of humanity.

i.e.

You start off at your own home, you have a large possible stash of food from which to take from, you have a possible starting weapon depending on difficulty/character options or you can just wing something like a 2x4. The more supplies you take the longer you can survive in the wilderness, but the heavier your pack is and subsequently you get tired faster. Certain supplies last forever (i.e. Canned food) but others go off. Water is a major factor and finding fresh supplies is easier in urban areas but in country areas much more difficult.

Other survivors can carry supplies and weapons making you more likely to survive as a group, but also makes it more difficult to stay stealthy making you more likely to use ammo faster. You can have a team of up to 10 other survivors in your group but the chances of staying as a cohesive group are minimal. But then again the possibilties of the firepower of a 10 person group are impressive but you would burn ammo supplies like crazy.

You can use possible vehicles to traverse areas but these are limited by fuel and of course other abandoned vehicles.

There are many areas to explore throughout the whole mapped area of the game. Some might make useful temporary camp points while you make your way to safety, but you also have a possible option of setting up a permanent camp area yourself.

Once you have reached safety or established a permanent camp you then have the task of raiding areas for supplies. If you can't support the camp's supply requirement then morale will suffer and people will start leaving your camp. Camps can also be raided by the undead making it into a siege for control. Succeeding means you survive another day, failure could mean having to abandon the camp to try and find somewhere else, but also means you lose everything you had there.

As the game progresses you can send people to setup other camps, and slowly but surely you regain your grasp over the land and eventually whittle the zombies back and retake the cities. After the last city is infection free, you win.

Me and my brother spent a long time thinking about this. It would have the same sort of game structure as Spore. I.e. Start as a lone survivor, progress to team leader and eventually have settlements to manage and other teams to send out on missions.

Problem is that something of this type of scale would be impossible as far as I could see. Even with the expanse of maps like Oblivion or Fallout 3 I would be saying at least several times larger than that. The full vision that we had would be multiple towns and cities in a massive sprawling landscape. Not only that but as the game changes into the more management side you would then need almost a whole seperate team of programmers working on that. It would certainly be beyond the scope of most games companies because it would be a tremendous amount of effort and finance and it might flop.

I would make an online game out of it. Digitally put in an entire state with building you can walk in. Make a cut off limit of about 2,000 people to each server. Have a pre-set number of zombies then try to wipe them all out. The 2,000 people get scattered across all over the state, and can build up some bases, or move into pre-existing ones and fix them up. That is my zombie game idea, and I'd call it State of Terror.

Zombie Farmer or Farmland of the Undead: You are a mid-west farmer. On a cloudless day, the twister siren sounds. Family hurries down to the shelter. You hear a car race by on the interstate, followed by a crashing sound, then gunshots. Turn of the radio to hear something about some sort of outbreak. The rest of the game is trying to escape to the local light aviation field (turns out your character/companion's character was a Gulf War Hercules pilot). Hide in haylofts, fighing off the occasional horde of zombies with had tools and the occassional firearm (handgun, shotgun, rifle). Fleeing a great deal of the way on a tractor towing a semi-trailer flatbead (armored with haybales, or course). Nerf the shotguns most of the time with birdshot or makingthem an over/under. And make the guns malfunction occassionally(ala quick reload in Gears of War).
