One way, you get a demons-have-invaded-Mars-themed bullet hell. The other, you get a first-person shooter with spellcards and multi-directional lasers.
Either would be awful and glorious. I can't begin to fathom what you'd get if you simply smashed the two together.

99 nights+ halo. master chief falcon punching his way through valleys filled with grunts in an awesome thirdperson view of carnage= epic. also halo's forge mixed with timesplitters future perfect's mapmaker.
Mass Effect and Metroid Prime. Customise your own bounty hunter, customise your ship, take bounty jobs to distant and interesting planets..... and then blow them the fuck up. There'd be an online mode too, so you could battle your custom bounty hunter against everyone else's.
