Ehhhh...... I feel like it's a tie, but Reach has character customization.
So Reach wins by a little.

Sorry Gears, I still love you!

It's a hard choice but Reach has character coustomization, along with forge and coustom games. Coustom games are awesome and add a lot more of replay ability.

The single player campaign for Gears will likely be the more interesting despite having the greater amount of uncomfortable macho bullshit, but there's a near 100% chance Reach is going to blow Gears away in the multiplayer which is where I'd spend the most time. I'll have to go with Reach though I probably won't be picking up either game.

There is speculation for customization for gears 3, we just don't know yet. Maybe its better to wait for more info before making a purchase.

Not to start a flame war or anything, but I was genuinely suprised at how many people here are waiting to see what happens at the end of gears of war. I mean, I like the games there fun and everything but the story was never very strong at all
Gears 1: marcus phoenix kills the bad guys then wins!
Gears 2: marcus phoenix kills the bad guys then wins!...again!
gears 3: ???
is there really much speculation as to whats going to happen at the end of the story arc?
Obviously it's going to be going like thus:
Marcus Fenix fights bitterly against the crumbling Locust Empire, and the newly created Lambent faction, as all of Mankind does their best to avoid being pushed from the continent into the sea. As he fights in the ruins along the outskirts of Jacinto, many of his friends die, and players must make a terrible, and heartbreaking decision whether to kill Cole Train or not, as he is turning lambent. In the climax, Fenis sacrifices himself; killing both the Locust Queen and the Lambent's leader - his father.

LOL JK. You're just going to kill more bitchez and come out da winner.

They've promised a deeper storyer (Not that we should beleive what developers promise anymore) But even still, i'd rather kill people in gears with some nice highpower weaponry-fun. Rather than just run around with massive ammounts of health and shoot the same god damn aliens with guns that feel like your shooting squirt guns.

Story matters a LOT to me, so I'm saying Gears. Halo Reach is a story we already know. In the end, Reach gets glassed and humanity has to fall back again. This is why I don't like prequels too much, because we already know how things have to end. Gears 3, however, will (hopefully) be answering some questions from Gears 2 and I want to see if I'm right about some things.
Don't get me wrong, I fully intend to get both, but if I had to choose, Gears wins. Now, if Bungie promised to have something at the end detailing how Master Chief gets back to Earth, then it might be a tougher choice...

Reach.

It must reclaim the Halo throne after ODST and Wars...
By using the same gameplay as Halo1, 2, 3, AND ODST?

Btw how does a game reclaim a throne from itself? Doesnt it already have its throne?

Id take Gears over Halo any day. Hopefully they fixed the mess that is Gears 2's multiplayer. I have such fond memories of Gears 1. It's quite sad really.

Neither, because they're both insipid turds.

AMENDMENT: Both of the series' preceding games were insipid turds.

Screw halo reach. Its pretty much just like ALL the others. Oh wait, sorry, you get a little animation when you melee someone from behind.

Gears of war never gets old, and its the final chapter too the trilogy, I friggin wanna know whats gonna happen!

So would I rather have a prequel to a over-rated, run-n-gun? Or a game where I can chainsaw people in half or use them as a meat shield while fighting giant monsters.
Yeah, you're right. Space fighting has been in every other Halo game too. It's not a serious expansion at all!
my thoughts exactly... Halo: reach adds alot the series (assassination, those skill things, jetpacks, space like you said...) and other stuff but I dont own a 360 so I cant play it. Darn it. :( *steals freinds* :S

I only have enough to pre-order one, but it's a tough choice! My friends will play Halo Reach and Gears of War 3 will take forever to be released. Oohh >.<!
What's a preorder?
/end sarcasm

I haven't preordered a game in at least 5 years and they always have em in stock when I go to buy it...

Well you could say the same things about gears 3. gears 1 was shooting bland looking aliens with big generic guns (few exceptions like the torque bow), and gears 2 was just more of the same. do you really belive that gears 3 will make any significant changes to the formula at this point?

Even if they didnt I still loved the formula. Considering it tended to be a very flexible formula.

I seriously feel no difference when I play Call of Duty (or any other run-n-gun) compared to Halo. Execpt COD has a good story, and the weapons dont feel like their made of plastic, and rather than just smack people repeatably with the end of your gun, youd get knife.

(Imma end this here. Cuz we can all have out own opinions, and Im seriously not in the mood to argue)

Eh, don't bother fighting with him. I doubt he's actually looked into any of it. Besides, the arguments against Halo can be used against Gears as well. Isn't there supposed to be a rule against starting a flame war?
