...For the rest of your life, what would It be and why?

It's a question I heard being asked somewhere and it left me pondering for quite some time. I'm a very musically influenced person, everything I do is inspired by the music I'm listening to at the time.

I don't think I could live with just one genre of music in my life, I'd get bored and lost in the repetition. But if I had to pick it'd probably be something like Hardstyle or Drum and bass. Both have a heavy and quick bass beat behind them, but can come with extremely soft and soothing build-ups, so if i needed soft music surely I could just repeat the build up, It's still the same genre.

What about you guys?

I can pick a whole genre?
Not just one song?
Hah, this is easy, no challenge in my eyes.
The genre I'd pick is J-Pop. Why? Because I like it.
I need no more reason than that. I like a lot of the songs, a lot more than most modern stuff from my own or other western countries. Or pretty much any country.
Sure, I'd miss a few good songs, but at least I'd have the music I love.

Honestly, I'm torn between Symphonic Metal, and Italian Rococo. They are very similar in structure and melody though.

I'd probably have to go with classical as its got a fairly wide variety of sound within it.

I'd pick all that jazz.
Torn between that and rock. Given, I only really love two or three jazz subgenres (mainly bebop, swing and big band) but rock...oh boy. Everything from Iron Maiden to The Rolling Stones to Muse. Yeah, I'm going for that one. Sorry jazz. Still love you!

I'd rather not pick though, I just friggin' love switching from Iron Maiden to Frank Sinatra all of a sudden. Makes people go "lolwut?"

id pick rock, just because with the amount of bands in the world picking a real generic genera will lead to millions of differnt choices and I could slip in something heavier of softer without somebody looking cause rock is so encompassing.

The more specific you get the less choices your gonna have.

I'd pick Sak, as long as I can have all the waves of Ska, I'll be pretty happy.

Experimental.

That would include Mars Volta and Presidents of the United States of America (listen to one of their CDs, in 12 tracks they play 9 different genres).

Ya, I will listen to a lot of crap, but I will also hear some of the most inspired music out there.

Depends on what you mean with "COULD."

If it's a physical or mental thing I'd have to go for none at all and just keep playing piano all the day long.

If it's a legal thing I'd risk jailtime.

Cause really, if I had to choose to single out any genre and live by it... that will not end well for me...

Depends on how loosely you define a genre.

Metal is extremely broad, I'll go with that.
I was on more a long the lines of fixed genres. Of course I knew we'd get everyone going for the loose-fitting genres.

Loopholes, they be teh-secks?

Heh, half the bands I listen to don't fit into rigid genres anyway!

Devin townsend: Progressive-extreme-folky-groovy-ambient-poppy-synth-metal-jazz?

Protest the hero: Punky-proggy-metal-rock?

Opeth: Death metal-folky-rock?

And so on...

Hmm, probably alternative or progressive metal. That seems to be the sort of thing I'm into at the moment and I find it doesn't get old to me as quickly as some other genres.
