I've noticed that more and more games are becoming more and more like movies in the sense that it's becoming more and more recognized as a serious and a potentially high budget medium. But like high budget movies, more money does not always equal good quality.
One prevalent problem is poor dialogue and script. For example, the dialogue of Gears of War would be more understandable if the COGS were middle schoolers who just discovered the wonder of swear words. If I could rewrite it, then I would like to make the COGS into gung ho soldiers, but human and relatable. The massive testosterone filled man children with more armor than a Abram Tank aren't relatable.
