Almost any strategy game, as a commander. Not Dawn of war though.

Then, maybe Gordon Freeman?

Any game protagonist. Then I'd alter each game loads. Some examples:

Halo - kill Sgt. Johnson and Miranda Keyes, then help the Covenant, just to see how the rings destroy the sentient life in the galaxy.

Final Fantasy XII - Steal the Bahamut. How do you like me now, crazy gun-wielding British stereotype! (Balthier for the uninitiated).

Left 4 Dead - Just to see how I'd cope in a zombie apocalypse.

I have an alteration for every game, does anyone have any requests?

I would star in my own completely unique game, and the world would be filled with awesome, and then one day, I would leave my game and enter the real world in an explosion so awesome the awesome cult dedicated to awesome has a seisure and, in their erratic movements, kill every single world leader allowing me to rule the world.
Or something.

Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy.
Best. Life. Ever.

And the best part is, she gets to be a mother without having to deal with the nasties!

I would be the test subject in portal, but only after escaping from Aperture. Having the portal gun in the real world would be endless fun, plus you would save a lot in gas and airfare.

I'd also probably go with being Link in Ocarina of Time, though the end would probably depress me a tad, all my efforts and hardships meaning nothing and all returning to normal as if nothing had happened except for the effective death of some of my close friends. And I'd be screwed with the inability to use a sword effectively.
