Good comic book story: 4 people sit at a table. Before them is a root. Looks like a beet. They're told that one bite will cause almost instant death, but in the moment before that death, they will know total bliss. It really does kill. There's no way to know if they blissed out. The point: it would be idiotic to throw your life away chasing something so fleeting and illusory, but acknowledges how tempting some things can be.
So, I'll stick to beer.
