well the falling through the terminal velocity portal loop would have a big downside unless you get those leg brace things the protaganist wears... otherwise, broken bones and death... never fun.

I would rob a bank think about it you could pretty much open up any portal door where ever you want.

Put one above a large group of people in the cinema, then just drop popcorn on them XD

make one connecting a nearby alley to the beach, so i can go swimming from just a short walk and no homeless people get into my house
