This is a toughie for me since I personally don't believe in time travel. So here's a list of things I would do

I'd go back and see a ton of heavy metal concerts.
I'd buy a couple hundred bottles of wine cheap and hide them somewhere, dig them up later, make money.
Invest in Microsoft and Apple very early on. get them cheap
Finally I'd make friends with various people through history. Or at least try to

I'd be terrified to change anything before 1995 because of the risk of nuclear war between America and Russia, and wouldn't want to change anything before 2011 because I might cause a paradox that prevents me from getting the time machine. However, I'd be willing to go into the future, get some advanced technology, and bring it to the people of now. I'd get rich and bring good things to the world of 2011.
