[Sorry for the possibly over-serious reply, but your topic got me thinking OP.]
"Our lives are fuelled by three things. Physical needs; the need for shelter, food, etc. Psychological needs; the need for social interaction, the need to be part of something bigger than yourself, belonging. And Spiritual needs; the need to express yourself emotionally, creatively, to be true to who you are, to grow, aspire, and achieve.
The education system and growing up in modern society gives you pointers on how to keep yourself alive; satisfying your physical needs, it guides you into developing Psychologically; by teaching you to understand the world, how it works, how society functions, and how to contribute to the well-being of others. They educate you academically in schools and colleges, and universities to think as an intelligent human being. I feel spiritual guidance is much harder to come by, and is severely lacking in modern society - at least in the western world.
Spirituality is important in modern day life. It does not have to be the belief of a god, an afterlife, or even the following of a religion. I consider myself spiritual, if however limited. I am also an atheist, I do not believe that any religion is worth following to the letter. You should decide yourself how to live, not follow the dictates of others, whatever they may claim. It is my firm belief that it is far more important for someone to make decisions based on their affects, and what they believe to be "right". Considering the concepts of right and wrong and how they apply to our lives and the lives of others is what spirituality truly is, and in understanding the spirituality of self and others, you can truly live. If only in my humble and limited opinion."
[It's debatable if anyone would understand the message, but getting people to truly think about life has always felt important to me.]
