If you had kids, how would you raise them?

The topic about 13-year olds in Victoria's Secret made me think about how I'm going raise MY kids when they get into this world.

My daughter is NOT going to get into Bratz, Miley Cyrus or any of that other shit (Spongebob I can deal with to a certain extent), and she'll be brought up on good childrens TV and actual fun games. Also, teaching her not to be an intolerant c*nt princess will help out a bunch

A son will be easier to deal with, as most of the youth corrupting merchandise is directed toward young girls. Basically I'll teach him not to be me when I was his age, socially awkward and a doormat.

I'll try to raise my son/daughter to just be normal ie. not stand out but not be outcasts either.

With an iron fist and a sensory deprivation chamber!

I'd just try and teach my kids the meaning of happiness. I don't care if they're not genius' or world beating athletes so long as they do what makes them happy.

It will be easier for me if we have a son, because I can give him the father-son connection. But whether it is a boy or a girl, I will go for "pain is the best teacher". If, say, they want to touch a hot burner, say "Don;t do that" once. If they go for it again, say "I'm serious, don;t do that." and If they go for it a third time, I will let them, and then tell them "Well you aren't gonna do that again, are you?"

While the youth corrupting merchandise sure is directed at young girls > women, young males are being forced into "maturity roles" just as quickly. Though it is promising to know there are those who want to take a direct hand in parenting their own children. Its not entirely that common anymore

I think I'm just gonna name the kid Hitler and see how things go.
Someone did that a while back...

They actually got a huge number of death threats and the child was taken away from their parents.

with an iron fist towards education
but a gentle heart towards anything social. Weed after homework.

Better than my mom raised me. Ofcourse you seem a bit too strict unfortunatly. Only thing I plan on forcing on my children is free thinking and video games.

Just asking, but -how- exactly are you planning to do this? These are some of the reasons why I'm probably not going to have children. Think about yourself when you were a kid; were your parents able to control everything you talked about? At school? Secretly when you weren't home. In addition, everything you ban, they'll just want more. And even more so, kids who are 'sheltered' (if we're going that route, AKA 'miley doesn't exist!') end up becoming pushovers. Man, you're just going to have to pray your kids have a genetic predisposition for anti-miley!

Anyway, I'd teach my child the words "F**K OFF!", nobody will ever push him around in school if he starts with that early enough. They'd never do anything that they don't want to.

I'm not going to "shelter" them from it and pretend it doesn't exist, I'm just going to make sure their exposed to stuff that's better first. I'm not going to ban my children from anything. In fact, I don't even plan to ban them from having sex when they're old enough. I'll tell them the consequences of having sex like disease and pregnancy, and all the ways to make it safer and enjoyable. And most of all how important your virginity is and how waiting for someone you truely and deeply love is the absolute best way to go about it.

Edit: In fact, I don't even plan to ban them from having sex when they're old enough.

Wow, unintentional incestuous overtones...

I would probably raise them unnecessarily strictly by most people's standards, to be honest. I'd just be determined to prevent them from turning into phenomenal idiots who think being a jackass is a good thing, and treat women like trophies.

You know, like 70% of the people I know.

Kinda hard to speculate on how I would raise my kids when Im not ready to have any quite yet...

Saying that, I would try to aim toward the "live and learn" style where I let them make their own mistakes and reap their own consequences, only interfering when the outcome is dangerous or debilitating.

That is, of course, if I have a son.
If I had a daughter, I would lock her away in a closet until she was 18, with piles and piles of counter-reformation literature. Then send her to some private Christian collage, where the worst that can happen is her marrying some Lutheran pastor.
