If you had proof that God didn't exsist, would you show the world?

Yes, and I would organize a planet wide suicide pact because if life has no purpose other than its own perpetuation it isn't worth it for anyone.

Yes for no other reason than to cause suffering to all people of all religions, except Buddhism and Taoism which don't believe in a God/Gods, to my knowledge.

The aftermath would be enjoyable to my mind.

I am a agent of chaos :p

Unfortunatly it would be impossible to prove as belief can not be disproved

Probably not. Anti-religious people have been trying the proof card for a looooong time. I also don't prefer world-wide publicity either - being shot for disagreeing with someone else's faith is not one of my life goals.

Twilight.
Twilight does not disprove the existence of God, merely that

a) The Mormons are mostly right.

b) Contrary to previous thought, God is actually a 14 year old girl.
That made me laugh. Gold star for you, my man!

any who know my other postings around here are sure to know im 'religious' but assuming you could prove a negative and i had proof that everyone would accept, the world over, that there was no God id certianly use that information and give it too the world.

im not sure id like the world that would be created from this proof, but even though im 'religious' im also religious because i seek truth. in many ways my life would be easier if i DIDNT belive in God. it might be nice to be able to go through life without a care in the world for any possable future beyond today. to be able to look at the world as something ill only experiance for a limited time and to be able to adopt the attitude of get what you can while the gettings good and to do unto others before they do unto you.

but somehow i think that if i had actualy proof that God wasnt real, life wouldnt really be worth living. somehow knowing i was nothing more than a smarter version of a dog, or that the entire universe is nothing more than an accident would take most of the magic out of life for me.

how pointless it would all be.

Okay maybe I'm wrong but if there was a second life wouldn't this one be pointless? If this is all there is then it would be way more important because you'd only exist once so you'd have to make sure what you do counts for something. If there is an after-life then this is just a pointless waiting game.

It thinking like this that leads to people not caring if they die AKA suicide bombers. Why live in this shit hole when I can just blow myself up and be chillin in paradise.

big no, if you devoted your life to something and heard it doesn't exist how would you react. also a lot of people are amoral bastards and the only thing keeping them in line is the threat of hell. Mind you i'm aethiest by the way.

also this needs a poll

You're putting words in my mouth. Stop that. I'm just sick of people making such a huge distinction between religion and science. I happen to know or know of many religious scientists; A few, coincidentally, are pretty famous and influential.
I was addressing cuddly_tomato's response to Bright Raven. How am I putting words into your mouth?

Yes, especialy to annoy those damn creationists and their "poof it just happened" theories.

Religion, certain areas more than others, conflicts with science so greatly... so in the name of scientific progress, the truth must be told =P

Virtuous are those who deny in the face of irrefutable evidence. Many would succumb to the knowledge, but many will still keep faith not out of virtue but out of fear.

Too many will be too afraid to not believe.

I would share it. I'd be so interested to see the reactions - of course there'd be misguided holy wars, suicides en masse, etc.

But when the weak-willed cowards were out of the way, a curious new world would unfold, hopefully worshiping science. I can legitimately see, once the whole chaos thing died down, a unified world government finally coming to terms with each other based on what we know, not which version of God we follow.

Trick question? I don't think it's possible to prove that a God does not exists. Religion is based on faith, is it not? No matter what, there will be people out there that believe one might exist, or does.

If it was possible, of course.

Oddly only religion works like that. Any secular institution existing like that would be considered ridiculous.
Of course only religion works that way, it's the nature of the beast, since they are dealing with beings that exist on other celestial or ethereal planes, possibly within this dimension or perhaps within another. In lamens terms they deal with something that cannot be seen, but are supposed to always be there. Anyway, so to answer the question posed in the original thread, I doubt it would make the world any better, the last thing we need are Nihilists and Objectivists gaining any kind of philosophical ground or political leverage. The whole no morality and the idea of only thinking about yourself would undo alot of what has had to happen to get ourselves as far along as we are, however little that may be.
Where are we? The Catholic church accepts Holocaust deniers, and as far as I can see, there's the same amount of proof for the existence of Jesus or God as there is for Xenu or Cthulu. Maybe slightly more for Cthulu. Give me proof of a higher being (a particularly patronising idea, them being "higher" than mere mortals) and I'll convert.

No. The ramifications of such an event would be unfathomable. It would literally destroy billions of peoples lives in an instant - it's the equivalent of a mental nuclear bomb. It would be irresponsible to do so.

yes just to see the pope's reaction.

and to say "fuck yeh we were right bitches" or something along the lines of that, and to watch the awesome chaos that unfolds. I'd learn Irish dancing and dance around the vatican singing "we were right and you were wrong, na na na na na na ha ha ha ha ha ha"

Some might say that of many other institutions, PETA for example?
