If you had to give Isaac Clarke (Dead Space) a personality, what would it be?

People have often noted that in the 2008 EA release Dead Space, the main protagonist can
hardly be called likeable as he never speaks or indeed expresses much of any personality in game. The closest you get is in the 'commentary of current objecitves' and that's hardly enough.
So I've decided to present a hypothetical to the people who have played Dead Space: If someone approached you, telling you to give this voiceless void (Isaac) personality, what would his personality be like?
If it were up to me I would have made Isaac similar to Randy from Scream and have him constantly scorn at the various horror cliche's present in the game. You know, like a pop culture nerd, at least then I could relate to him.

So how about you?

(Actually while I'm here, Isaac Clarke is just an example, if anyone can think of any other mute protagonists that you would like to add a personality too like say Gordon Freeman, feel free to.)

Dead Space is a good game, I think it added to the survival horror type thing having Isaac as a mute. Even if you put someone likable say Obama as the main character I dont think that would have enhanced the game at all..

But since yahtzee said its bad to have a mute character it must be bad.......

I think the whole "mute" thing was to make the player feel like it was himself fighting for survival.

I wish Isaac would point out how unfair the situation is most of the time.
"You want me to do what?"

Like master chief?

I'd say Issac Clarke would be the kind of person who as the game progresses becomes harder inside. Like the first few times he would see a necromorph, His breathing increases, he glances at his weapon more often, those kind of things, little touches that would add to " the wrong guy at the wrong time".

How about a conscientious objector. Would be interesting, seeing him take life to preserve his own while battling his own moral constraints. Making him not a pacifist but just one who objects to taking life. Then him butchering already mutilated people would be hilarious at some points and disturbing at others.

My thoughts exactly:
"Get in there and kill that giant monster the size of a football stadium!"
me: "I'm just a bloody engineer lady!"

...Too epic.

I haven't actually played the game, but I'd have to say that Isaac Clarke would be very conflicted. He misses the people he once knew (unless I'm just butchering the story, I apologize,) but he's slowly becoming used to this frantic way of living. His life is becoming more fast paced. It is more of a fight for survival than anything he has ever encountered before. This disturbs him, scares him, and in a way, it excites him. Deep inside, he can see that he is beginning to feel satisfaction by killing the monsters that attack him. It terrifies him to think that he might be turning into somebody who draws happiness from suffering. He wants to stop, to turn and run from this fate, but his situation will not allow it. In this way, he never really adjusts to the mutants and the way he is forced to live.

I don't know how you put this into a video game, but whatever. Once again, I'm sorry if I just don't get the story enough to write about this. But hey, it was still interesting to think about.

Someone who reacts realistically.

"Isaac, go destroy the fifty foot monster from hell!"
"I install toilets for Christ sake."

"Isaac, go flip this switch!"
"Oka--"*monster jumps out*"HOLY FUCK MY EYES KILL IT WITH FIRE!"
I concur, I want a guy who complains the whole damn time.

I never said it was bad to have a mute protagonist, this is a hypothetical of 'if he had a personality' what would you do?
I don't agree with everything Yahtzee says by the way, I rather liked the mute dude, I'm just saying what personality would you pick out for him if he had one?

Yeah, I agree on that. I liked Isaac and still do, and Dead Space is awesome.
