If you had to make a villain for a video game what would he (she) be like?

The greatest vilan is one with noble intention. I would have to make you question whether or not you were right in opposing him, and when you finally defeat him...you find out you were wrong.

And then it falls on you to save the world from whatever malevolent thing the other guy was trying to stop.

Apologies for going against conventiality, but that is what I would do. If it were a video game.

His appearance would be white skin, brown hair, blue eyes, beard and mustache, black trench coat and black clothing in general.

He would be rich, intelligent, a capable marksman, a charismatic leader of a private army who is loyal to him, he would have access to great scientists and powerful technologies, also of note is his lack of over-confidence and his willingness to plan for "just in case I mess up" scenarios.

Also noteworthy is his compassion and mercy, he doesn't slaughter his own henchmen when they fail and he makes sure the wounded are tended to.

For instance, if he dies, his mind is uploaded to a cloned form on a moon base, his cloned form having super-strength, super-speed and super-intelligence (on top of his already intelligent mind).

Why does he fight? Why is he evil? Because that's the choice he made and that's how you choose to view him for that choice.

He shall prevail.

His name is Payne.

My character would have to be emotionally disconnected from other people. That combined with a brilliance and shear thirst for control and power. I would base it on Loki, the trickter god from Norse tradition. An entity that is wiser then all, and revels in pointing out moral ambiguities, which in turn serve to prove that moral ethics are meaningless. This kind of transcendence would instill fear and awe.

That, or Bill Cosby on LSD.

He/She would be all about psychological warfare. It's not to often that you get a villian that can really get into the players mind and mess with him a little bit. The charecter would always be several steps ahead of the player and would keep their true intentions hidden. I think the player would have to not really no who they are fighting and why. It would have to be more then a few surprise twists and 'BOO!' jump out horrer scenes. This villian would have to really just drive the player nuts.

I'd like to thank Delita Heiral for introducing this trope to me.

I'd make a villain who started out as an ally and a friend to the hero. No hidden agendas, no foreshadowing of a future backstabbing, nothing snide like that. But then I'd make that one single incident, the one that causes the hero and the villain to go their separate ways due to a core fundamental difference. Then, when he and the hero meet again, that fundamental difference turns to friction, then opposition, and ultimately a confrontation between two former friends. If done right, it could be truly epic.

Make the villain the main character, but make them unaware of this. Sure, it might be a bit of a "Oh! So I'm the b@stard!" cliche, but if you make the change come about from something that the character does, (accidentally killing a friend, say,) turns them into th evillain in the last 10 minutes.

Basically, as the game draws to close, the player begins to lose their grip on the morality of the character.

I'd basically have Snidely Whiplash armed with a side-arm cannon that shoots rainbow eating demon babies.

Also he'd be a robot.

They'd be extremely intelligent and charismatic. They'd be skilled in both being a tactician and in personal combat. They'd have a loyal, well trained (no Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy for these guys) army. They'd have not one, but several backup plans already under way just for that slight possibility that they might lose. And they'd win due to extreme genre savvy.

Although, come to think of it, It could possibly make a very boring game. To be quite honest I'd rather make a game where the villain WAS the protagonist.

Someone you regret killing or maybe dont kill at all due to the fact that you are not sure if his goal (destroying something or doing something normally thought of as evil) is right or if its wrong. you will start off with him being the most evil thing ever but as you go trough you will start to question it until the very end where you get a choice :D

I'd make the villain someone that from the outside appears perfectly harmless, average height, average looking, average personality, nothing that stands out from the crowd physically. They would be very intelligent and be able to adapt to any situation and 'blend in', which is of course helped enormously by their average appearance - nobody pays any attention to them.
His/her motives for being villainous would range from a desire to impress themselves upon others to be noticed or to wreak havoc into a society that they feel they are on the outside looking in at to having a completely skewed sense of morals and doing as they please because they can get away with it and never get caught.

A villain who doesn't want to be a villain but is constantly pressured by his people to be evil because he seems to fit the profile.

Stupid, I know, but entirely plausible.

Somebody whose goals are seen as evil and good. He would do such things as Kill an entire village because it was destroying the environment for whatever reason. Kind of like a cross between Robin Hood, V for Vendetta, The Joker and Durzo Blint or Mr. Crepsley (Last two are charismatic mentors from books)

This is what he would look like:

My Villian [http://api.ning.com/files/5zJPd9gZkElzWSXoFhzdP2OIWX1gejyQ6th5rCt01kMQKLRawWRAgjmWz6fcOfdPPymfcboWAsx-sV6h6ZgwORB0hjIyOyi*/YoungDurzo.jpg]

He would also have either a Cowl, Hood or Van Helsing Hat and he would be very insightful, intelligent, acrobatic and somewhat helpful.
