If you had to name your son after a video game character, who would you choose and why?

Somewhere in South East England, Ben Elton sheds a tear of beautiful irony.

Nine Toes. And if it's a boy, Thomas Light. Light would be his middle name.

I will never have children.

What did that kid ever do to you!?!?!?!

To answer the thread though: Alyx (as in, Alyx Vance). I love that name (though I would do that to a girl obviously, I would go with Alex if it was a guy and I'll just assume there is an Alex somewhere in video games).

Like Alex Mercer? You WANT your kid to unleash a disfiguring flesh-monster virus on the world?

Hmm I'd go for something that's a "normal" name so they didn't get made fun of in school, so I guess if I had to I'd call my son Lloyd after Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia. If I had a daughter and I had to name her after a video game character I guess I'd call her Sheena after Sheena Fujibayashi from the same.

I suppose if I had to pick "strange" names I guess I'd call my son Zelos (also from Tales of Symphonia) and my daughter Samus (from Metroid).

... Actually if I have a daughter I might call her Samus anyway. Samus is an awesome name.

There's loads of normal names I like from video games, I think the games is where I got them from.

Zack, Rufus, Vincent (FFVII) Leon, Albert (Resident Evil) Leo (Tekken) I even like the name Dante although I probably wouldn't pick it.

Every time I hear about some kid getting saddled with an unusual name, I begin to think that those countries that have approved lists of acceptable names aren't all that crazy. The only thing worse is when the parents misspell the name.

I would give my child a name that already exists as my one act of good will towards them, but that doesn't bar me from giving them uncommon or weird names.
A few names I've been mulling over for a boy would be; Adell (Disgaea 2) Cecil (Final Fantasy 4) or Link (LoZ of course)
As for girls I find myself torn between; Franziska (Ace Attorney) Rozaline (Again, Disgaea 2) and Minerva (Roman Goddess who I am sure has been portrayed in a few games)

A child is an independent and autonomous human being, not a bumper sticker to show off every book or movie or video game you personally like. I will not name my child after a video game character, especially one with such an obnoxious name like "Cloud" or "Alucard" or "Zidane." If it's a regular name that happens to be shared by a character then fine (Nathan, John, Fiona, etc) but a fantastical name? Certainly not.
In that line of thinking, I'd be really happy if I could name my son Roland. It's a good name besides, but it's also the name of the Gunslinger.

Corvo has a pretty nice name. I'm planning on naming offspring after inspirational people, though.

This is not video game related, but it is still "geeky." My mom wanted to name me Cheetara.

Yes this Cheetara...My mom watched the show while she was pregnant with me. I am so grateful that she did not(My dad vetoed it). I have far too many geeky friends for me to live that down. XD.

I've long wanted to name a future daughter after Terra, from FF6, but my Step Brother has laid claim on the name Auron for his first born son. He will be the father of Auron Finnegan. And I approve.

I can think of a couple of names that I'd take from games, not necessarily because I like the characters but because I like the names. Garrus and Tali for example. They'd be unusual, certainly, but a generation from now Mass Effect isn't going to be the first thing that springs to people's minds, and if a child introduced themself with either name 15-20 years from now, do the names really sound bad enough to cause them any strife?

Looking at tv shows instead of games, Ragnar Lothbrok has to be one of the most badass names I've ever heard. If I was Scandinavian I'd name my son Ragnar in a heartbeat.

Something simple like, Marcus. He kicked so much butt and he put that ***** of a queen down in the coolest way. "That's for my friend and everyone else you killed you *****."

If you don't know who I'm talking about, please slap yourself in the face.

For a boy, probably Issac, inspired by Isaac from Golden Sun. I like the name, and it's pretty normal yet uncommon. As much as I love him, Link wouldn't be a name I would want to give my son, maybe for his middle name, although I still probably wouldn't do that.

For a girl, I haven't given it much thought, but I do like a bunch of regular names that would probably match some female characters I like.

Fr a boy I'm thinking either Kite (.hack) or Miles (Edgeworth/Prower), I'm not sure for a girl though. Heck, I'm not sure if I'll even have kids...
