If you had to name your son after a video game character, who would you choose and why?

Darius.
After the MIGHTY DUNKS OF DARIUS.
Pretty cool name. Would have to change my family name though because it is literally impossible to pronounce and clashes horribly with any and all names whatsoever.

For a boy, probably Issac, inspired by Isaac from Golden Sun. I like the name, and it's pretty normal yet uncommon. As much as I love him, Link wouldn't be a name I would want to give my son, maybe for his middle name, although I still probably wouldn't do that.

For a girl, I haven't given it much thought, but I do like a bunch of regular names that would probably match some female characters I like.
Dammit Ninja'd.

If I had a second son I'm calling him Piers, because even though the second game wasn't as good, I still loved that immortal seafarer.

If it's a girl, easy.
Actually, no, it's either gonna be Alyx(half life) or Maya (both the civilisation and the Siren)

But goddamit I want a son named Isaac. it's a normal name, so I won't be one of those douchey parents who name their child completely for the lulz...
and he shall have a yellow scarf.

What did that kid ever do to you!?!?!?!

To answer the thread though: Alyx (as in, Alyx Vance). I love that name (though I would do that to a girl obviously, I would go with Alex if it was a guy and I'll just assume there is an Alex somewhere in video games).

Like Alex Mercer? You WANT your kid to unleash a disfiguring flesh-monster virus on the world?
It's just like my Grandpappy used to say:

You either get skewered, disemboweled, eaten, stabbed, and crushed by the flesh-monster or you become the flesh-monster.

...Grandpappy was a little loopy towards the end of his life.

Truely, with a name like Alex, people will give any child I name unending torment. "Hey Alex, what's with the non-blue hair?" "Hey Alex, can't get out of a swirly even though you're hydrokinetic?" etc. Poor kid.

The one "odd" name I might go for was Auron, but that sounds close enough to Aaron to maybe get by with minimal ridicule and has a nice ring to it.

Celes from FF6 is my favourite character from my favourite game... somehow I feel as though that name would be appropriate for a daughter.

For a son, Kane, as in Command and Conquer's Kane. C&C was one of the first games I couldn't stop playing - I loved it even more than Dune II!

I'd name them after one of the more normal one's, if only because I refuse to saddle my kid with a name just because I happen to like a pile of pixels that has the same name.

...Then again, I'm the guy whom's namelist for his firstborn son includes the names of his favourite musician and the names of all 3 main male protagonists from The Wheel of Time.

I don't think I'd do it myself but I think Zevran would be pretty fun name to live with.

In a similar vein I would totally name my daughter Leliana though.

I think there's a more subtle way of doing this, have kids with "normal" names that have a little easter egg style bonus for gamer fans, e.g. have two sons called Sam and Max or Andrew and Ryan.

If it were absolutely possible name my my kid after any game character, I'd choose Megaman.
Excuse me what? You'd name your child... Megaman?

Wouldn't that have a bit too many implications? What if Megaman turned out to be a baby girl? Wouldn't it be weird to tell your wife to change megaMANs diapers? What about later in life? Wouldn't it be hard to be a strong father figure when your son has the manliest name of all time? One that includes man, and the prefix mega which would imply he's worth a million men! Hed end up thinking of you as a sissy.

Unless your name is Gigaman, in which case I'll have you know that I'll be up for adoption and a name chance.

they do nothing but cry, eat and shit for at least a year.
(And if you're the mother they fucked with your body for 9 months before ripping your vagina in half)

After that they most likely ruin all your stuff, drain away all your free time and whine all the god damn time.

Not to long after that they become ungrateful little shits and leech away all your disposable income.

Once they're grown they wait for you to die so they can collect the inheritance.

So, kids do a lot to deserve it.
Giving a kid a name that will get them ridiculed and beat up their entire life is a parents' only recourse.

Back to the topic at hand:
If I had a boy I'd name him JaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAaaaaames Sunderland. That would be his first name and you'd have to say it like that.

A girl, Keira or Tali. No real gag or revenge mentality there, I just like those names.

Well I hate my future children, so I'll name him after a videogame.Like, the name of. So, uh, maybe Psychonauts? That's a stupid name. Or a really, really long name, but all one world, with punctuation included. Yeah, little StarWarsKnights:TheOldRepublic?IISithKnights is gonna be real popular in school.

In that line of thinking, I'd be really happy if I could name my son Roland. It's a good name besides, but it's also the name of the Gunslinger.
Yup, that'd be fine, as far as I'm concerned. I just hate the idea of people giving their kids names they'll have to explain their entire life because they wanted to use their kid as a hood ornament.

Pretty much all the main characters in Golden Sun have normal names that you could get away with naming a child after. Now that I think about it, my name is Matthew, since Issac named his son Matthew, I could be doing something wrong by going against the natural order, maybe I should not risk it. >.>

Piers is a pretty great substitute, who could seriously dislike Piers?

As far as reasons for having kids go, that one is pretty common. Sure, most of the time its veiled behind the want to "love and care" for something, but theres a reason why people tend to get kids when they are middle-aged, and life starts to lack substance otherwise.

Man, some threads.. I don't get them.
Naming your child because of some fandom? I think grown-ups should be past that level of teenage girls screaming their hearts out "Justin! Justin!". The only occurence I can think of where a fictional character might spark the idea of giving that name to my kid is where that fiction brought up a name that I otherwise would have been unaware of, like "Yorick". So, if someone put a gun onto my chest and demanded that I name my son after a video game character, I'd just go through the list of Gordon, Chris, John, Jake, Jason, Nathan, tbc ad infinitum and pick the one that I like most...

I'm personally hoping for twin daughters, myself.

However, in the spirit of the thread, if I had a son, there'd only be one name that I would want for him:

[HEADING=1]AND DRINK YOUR GODDAMNED TEA!!![/HEADING]
