Let's say that you've just won a huge lottery, and now have more money than you actually need, and wanted to donate some of your money to your favorite websites that do not rely on ad revenue. You decide that you're going to donate 100,000$ to a few of these websites to show your support. Does not include charity based websites like the red cross or kiva. just websites that do what you like.

What websites would you support most?

For me:
1. Wikipedia
2. Humble Bundle
3. SomaFM
4. Indie Royale

The cancer society. We need to find a cure.

Then I'd fund that guy with the glasses.com
Then I'd watch the news on a million dollar TV and get called insults on Fox News. Then sue them for slander. Lose, then hire a team to steal ALL of their money.

Just 5 sites ? Come on !

- Wikipedias and codexes. We live in the age of Information. We need to care about data centers.
- Sites hosting abandonware. I perceive them as perseverance of gaming history. Go team "past" ! ;)
- Wordpress.org because life is so much better with easy to learn and mantain CMS platform.
- The EscapistMagazine. I'd like it to be faster. :>
- 4chan, because it is rotting, stinking corpse that feeds all these "phun site wifff phunny pictshars" parasites out there.

- Free Software Foundation
- Electronic Frontier Foundation
- GNU Project
- Linux Project
- Ubuntu

If they had unlimited resources, the world would be a much nicer place.

I would give insane amounts of money to EA if they disabled Origin. I would also give insane money to VALVe if they gave me whatever they currently have of Episode Three. As far as donating, it would be:

Firefox
Steam Users Forum
Ace of Spades (a free game that could really use a professional forum and just plain income)
Quake Live

Then, for fun, I would make a totally impenetrable and unhackable way to save credit card information and transfer money over the internet. Yeah, I know that's really impossible, but so is having infinite money, so while we're fantasizing, let's go ALL the way, okay?

Then, I would find a totally stupid/wacky forum like /b/, upgrade their servers to withstand what was about to happen, buy out 4Chan, remove all moderators ... and give $100 to everyone who makes a post there. And keep giving them $100 for every post they make. The catch is though that you can't post anything less than 120 characters, it won't post if you have more than five misspelled words, can't have more than three of the same letters side by side (this and the one before that prevents "aaaaaaaaaaaa" and "atatatatatatatat" posts) and there would be a random word that will get you IP banned if your post contains it (only applicable to posts made while that word was chosen), and have that random word change every five minutes.

Then I would sit back and enjoy the total, utter madness.

I'd fund this site!

I love their videos, but imagine them with awesome special effects! Also giving them the funding so we could get interviews with devs, and a small studio they can work from...! Not talking about making it comercialised, or changing the content, just enhancing it!

Escapistmagazine.com. I'd like everyone to have the freedom of no ads.
Wikipedia.org. According to their banners anyway.
Avaaz.org. Although I don't exactly agree with some things they do, most of what they do is good enough for me. Or is there a conspiracy I'm missing?
Desertbus.org. If it's that time of year anyway. And I wouldn't be cruel enough to make them play the game for eternity xD.

Can't think of a fifth.

Wikipedia, I always feel guilty when I look at that giant banner ad at the top. And this site, the people here have been one of my few sources of entertainment for the past year and it'd be nice to see them get a little more cash for it.

None. I'd make my own company, and supply it with whatever it needs, and supervise that damn thing. I don't trust organizations, who knows how much of the money that you give them goes into their own pockets? I'd give things like goats, blankets, building materials along with food and water to those who need it. No strings attached, and I'd be happy.

Then donate a bunch to PETA and tell them to start doing even crazier things. Bwahahaha!

You mean Canonical ? The people that struggled so hard to create Linux for human beings, yet now with one, ahem, "bold" move ruined everything they gained and chose geeks and tablet users over common folk ?

Well...
